Healing w/Stormweaver

Please allow MSW stacks to be consumed on heals when running stormweaver. It is relatively common to encounter scenarios in which you cannot fire off an offensive spell first either because of lack of time or target.

Please let us have the choice to consume the MSW stacks on just a heal if we want to.

So you want 2 insta cast healing surges that can crit for 150k+ ? That would be far to powerful.

I’d rather have the choice of stormweaver as it is now, or, if not talented into it, your mana cost is reduced significantly, or removed completely. Considering the massive trade off between dps or healing, and the time it can take to build maelstrom, especially if fighting a caster. We have very little self defence, our healing is our only real self defence, and we are penalised heavily for using it.

Even if our mana cost was removed for self heals and remained for friendly targets, that would balance it out.

The current version is too much of a liability. And I’m not so sure that 2 100k heals on a 500k health pool is “far too powerful.” Especially considering we’ve already had stronger healing than that for all of shadowlands + season 1 dragonflight. As is, my earth shield and healing stream totem are doing more work than my healing surge now, even when I’m spamming healing surge.

However, if that would be too much, then what I suggested on PTR was this:

Stormweaver causes your next heal to heal for 50% and cost 50% mana. You can still cast regular strength/mana cost heals for MSW.

That way, you can choose between a half strength heal and a damage spell or just a full strength heal. This would basically just be bringing back swelling waves in a different form - instead of 1.5 heals (for a heal) or 0 heals (for a damage spell) w/swelling waves, it would be .5 heals (w/damage) or 1 heal.

Yes, absolutely. Given how much our healing has been nerfed and the removal of swelling waves, it wouldn’t be OP.

Healing Stream and Earth Shield are hitting super hard right now. We saw the power of this suggestion on the PTR. I’d prefer it put into place and Healing Stream and Earth Shield be toned down, but Shaman couldn’t have both. They’d be .7 Healers and 1.0 DPS without a MS.

Agreed, healing stream and earth shield are really strong right now and healing surge is comparatively weak. Feels a bit too lopsided with so much of the healing power on earth shield and healing stream and so little of it on healing surge.

I suspect this is the developers trying to make enhance less squishy and less dependent on saving MSW stacks for heals by shifting the majority of the healing to passive sources (healing stream, earth shield). This also can make enhance a less annoying opponent since the shaman’s health bar moves in smaller increments rather than tauntingly rapidly dropping and rising in massive swings.

While I think this is generally a good idea, it may have been taken too far at this point. So, maybe healing surge should get a bit of a boost and earth shield and healing stream should be toned down a bit to compensate.

I’m also worried that most of our healing is now counterable since earth shield can be dispelled and healing stream can be killed. With how strong they are now, people are more likely to focus on countering them.

Maybe its time for earth shield to be undiseplable like lightning shield is? Or maybe lighting shield should go back to being dispellable so that it can act as protection for earth shield.

As is, we don’t have other magic buffs to protect it so earth shield is very vulnerable to being dispelled.

How is this any different than what we had previously though?

I am still getting 100k-200k heals off in pvp fights ( no dampening, not in arena). I think the fact that we can straight up mongo non-stop now and still heal IS the compensation.

See above.

Compensation for what? For lowering casted heals? If so, then yes - that’s what I said. I’m just suggesting they might have gone a little overboard in moving healing from healing surge to earth shield/healing stream and that it may come back to bite us if people start focusing on countering them (which they generally haven’t done historically).

My healing stream got stomped pretty regularly last season. As for Earth Shield, there are generally more important things to dispel in our comp — depending what type of healer you are running.

Even then, if I 3v3 with a warrior and put Earth Shield on us both, it gets dispelled pretty regularly.

I don’t think its anything new, or that we need the compensation for the shift because we straight yolo our dmg unlike before.

Depends on your definition of regularly I guess. The changes could make them alot higher priority than they previously were.

Anyway, I’m not sure what of your posts is. All I suggested is that they might have gone a bit far in pushing healing from surges onto healing stream/earth shield. I guess you disagree?

You keep saying we don’t need compensation but I don’t know who you are replying to. I never suggested we need compensation as is, just suggested that they might consider rebalancing healing a little more onto healing surge and less on earth shield/healing stream than where it is now.

The reason I feel rebalancing the healing is not necessary is because we feel punchier. Our damage output people, particularly the ones who were using their healing more previously but now run stormweaver, is going to be higher overall — meaning healers are going to have to think a bit more between do they dispel something that can come back instantly, or do they heal their target/cc.

I utltimately think its a wait and see, and feel enhance in general right now is in a good place for pvp.

It should be allowed to use MSW stacks for a heal with the stormweaver talent without casting an offensive spell first, HOWEVER, without procing storm weave’rs “free”/ buffed heal.

The trade off is of course you lose the attack using the MSW but it can save you in a pinch when you don’t have an enemy target or a single GCD will mean the difference between life and death.

This is how I thought it was going /supposed to work.

But realistically when is this situation occuring that you are about to die and have no target?

It does, but its the exception, not the norm for pvp.

True, but it does happen occasionally (covered in dots while running away) but more important is the extra GCD.

That definitely can make a difference having to attack with an extra GCD before being able to heal when you’re near the brink of death. Yea, you can “preload” you’re heal before you get that low on health but it’s not always possible, especially when you’re getting focused.

Maybe it’s just a matter of getting more used to it, but it feels like it happens enough that I’d rather not run the talent because it feels like a serious liability.

Trying to fit globals in for focused insight and lightning bolt with facing requirements while under heavy pressure from melee that are stunning and slowing and constantly trying to get behind you and using karma, bubble, etc. And you are scrambling to build and spend 10 msw stacks to stay alive. Feels like a real liability to survivability instead of the boon I had hoped it would be.

I’ve only tried playing with it in world pvp and random bgs though so maybe it feels better with a healer.

I guess time will tell whether people find it effective or not. I was excited about this talent in concept but the healing limitation might be a deal breaker for me.

I miss having impactful off-healing. Keeping tabs on friendly health bars and managing MSW to pop off timely heals on teammates felt more fun and skillful then pressing earth shield and healing stream totem when they light up. And between the diminished strength of our heals and dampening, it feels like there isn’t much reward in trying to throw heals on teammates.

I had alot of fun in shadowlands playing double DPS 2s where I was the primary/only healer as enhance. It feel tough but winnable to go up against healer/dps teams. At least up to duelist range. In dragonflight, it doesn’t feel feasible, or at least wasn’t trying feasible when I tried it early in season 1. The off-healing just wasn’t strong enough (and it’s weaker now). And in 3s, I don’t feel like throwing heals on teammates has that much impact.

I just really enjoyed the hybrid dps/healer role and feel like it’s not the same when it’s just passive upkeep healing.

Also, while the switch to passive healing has made enhance more durable, I’m not sure that it has increased our output all that much. I think our output is just really strong right now in general due to the build options available as well as the triumphant return of low mana/off-GCD shamanism.

I will say, I’m really enjoying the current iteration of enhance. All things considered, this is maybe the most fun enhance has ever been. Just wondering if stormweaver should have a bit more flexibility (so that it can play more the role that 10 stack banking/5 stack healing played in shadowlands) and if off-heals should be a bit more impactful relative to our passive healing.

They should have kept the original version where MSW still affected your heals. I was excited for the talent when it was first introduced and I played around with it on the PTR. I didn’t realize they had made a change until the patch went live and saw Healing Surge wasn’t lighting up during a big WPvP battle on the sky island with the PvP WQ.

It was at that point I dropped the talent. I only do WPvP and random BGs. I definitely feel that the talent is a liability in this type of PvP where I rarely have a dedicated healer. Along with those you listed, there are a myriad of other situations where you don’t have the option or the time to cast an offensive spell first in order to heal.

Zezu, I need to apologise. I tried some enhancement today in arena for the first time in 10.1, and oh man was it rough. The healing output is weak and clunky when you are taking a lot of damage. AS and burrow are very short and offer little protection compared to incoming damage. Wasn’t very fun.

Edit: I did some actual research into the spec for this season and my talents were all wrong. After making some changes, I hit like a truck and heal quite well. I dont take stormweaver and if focused the maelstrom comes in quick.
