So I’ve been browsing through healer forums and honestly my takeaways are this:
-Holy priest is bad because it has no utility and no damage to add on it’s own. Amazing healing but apparently raiders will cancel holy priests.
-Resto Shaman is apparently a cataclysmic disaster with bad single target heals and too much effort and missing dispels for essential things like poisons. And resto druid envy for their 3 dispels. And misses some wind rush thing.
-Disc priest is apparently only good for pvp but is a complete flop in pve. And requires too much effort apparently?
-Misweaver monk is apparently the worst healer by a massive margin and people miss “fistweaving”? But apparently requires 100x more effort than the other healers for the same result?
Leaving only holy paladin and resto druid, where resto druid is apparently bad for raids and they apparently also just got massive nerfs to mastery and solar/lunar DoT.
Leaving only holy paladin…
Idk. This makes things look really bleak for me as someone who just wanted to be a vulpera healer
Resto druid is not bad for raids and they are broken in M+ and PvP. Holy paladin is maybe the best all around healing spec but arguments could be made for resto druid. Holy priest isn’t bad. It’s not great in M+ because they lack utility and damage but their throughput in raids is very high. Resto shaman is okay in raids, sort of a similar position to holy priests. Disc priests are played in mythic raiding and 3s. Mistweaver is not horrible. They are extremely strong in PvP and bring massive utility to both raids and M+ through ring of peace, AoE stuns, and a physical damage buff.
Resto shaman has the unique strength of their heals becoming stronger the lower health someone is. So they’re great for bringing the party back up from big hits and are exceptional for healing high damage encounters.
I have been feeling the same way. I have mained a Holy Priest since I bought this game in 2005. But I am too frustrated with this “healer” Meta. And people say “play what you want,” which is fine if you do solo play or make your own guild… But when you go to recruitment forums, it does not matter how high your parses are, people only want Holy Pal, Disc Priest, and sometimes R Shaman…
It might help if you give more context on what your healing aspirations are. If your goal is aotc and maybe up to +15 then all the healing specs are fine. The bottle neck only occurs for content harder than that, like mythic raiding.
Regarding mw monk, they are roughly third best in m+ after druid and hpal. They are very very rare in mythic raiding though for similar reasons as holy priest. Most common mythic cutting edge specs are disc, hpal, rshaman.
See I agree with Rhielle here , before m+ I used to dps when there was no healing to be done. Thats what made you a good healer and mana management. Now its forced on you and you HAVE to do it. Idk Either make changes for m+ balance faster or make a separate linear dungeon experience for the rest of us in my opinion.
Yeah, I think it’s silly too. Even though I can play my Holy Paladin and do some crazy burst DPS, it doesn’t feel right for obvious reasons.
At the very beginning of BfA I was doing more consistent DPS on bosses as Holy than I was as Ret. Not only that, I was often top DPS during the time the DPS were using their burst cooldowns on single target bosses.
With the numbers and budgeting they plug into this game when doing balancing, I almost feel like it affected how DPS specs play too. Seems like they are blurring the lines to make roles like tank and healer more attractive. Not sure that should come in the form of damage. If someone’s condition for playing a healer is that they can do burst DPS, I don’t think that’s the role for them.
Meh. I just play what I like to play. It’s not like most of us are vying for world first anything. We’re just here to play. (My main healers are resto druid, shaman, and holy priest.)
All options are viable, and yes all options are good if the person playing is good. If you gave me the choice between a mediocre holy paladin or a really good holy priest, I would take the priest 100/100 times.
My guild is progressing through mythic and will be doing M N’zoth with a Resto Druid. I could off spec holy paladin but we are way better off taking the really good healer even though it isn’t a meta spec at the moment. After the top 100 world guilds, you just bring your best players, regardless if their class is meta or not.
That’s not true at all for mythic nzoth. It is 100% a bring the class not the player fight, unless you have no players available for the meta spec. If your guild had another main hpal instead of the druid, who do you think gets the bench in last phase when you need to stack immunities?
