Should I go with old trusty Priest or try the Mage heals?
Priest heals are easy… they will always be strong in classic…
Mage is new and shiny… They do solid damage while healing…

Depends on your playstyle preference.
Do you prefer direct healing? Go priest.
Do you prefer healing through dealing damage and keeping a buff up on people? Mage.
Early on, mage healing will probably be a bit tough as the kit relies heavily on runes and can be pretty mana intensive, too. Not saying it’s bad, but just be prepared.

Priest is by far the strongest healer in SoD right now (and was for p1 as well).
Mage probably outputs the most damage while healing.

I have played Priest, Druid and most recently Evoker. I’ve enjoyed them all but got a real kick out of Evoker this last time around. Is the mage viable enough to do all of the dungeons/raids? - This is Kallore btw
Mage can struggle a bit at lower gear levels due to mana, but once you get decent gear, then definitely it’s viable for all content.
If you’re comparing it to retail, mage will play more like disc priest, while any SoD priest spec will play more like a retail holy priest. I don’t know enough about evokers to make a comparison there.

As a long time mage main, I refuse to acknowledge we have a healing spec. DPS FOREVER!
