Heal optimization

I’ve done a good bit of healing on my priest and shaman but I’m still having trouble with AOE healing. When the DPS are idiots and take avoidable damage directly to the face I can get everyone up on my H Priest easily. What do I do with shaman? Currently I riptide-surge-riptide-surge, pop cloudburst if it’s had a reasonable amount of time, and occasionally open with spirit link Totem if things are truly getting sporty. Sometimes just doesn’t feel like enough, especially if the DPS continues to be stupid like they often do. Am I doing the correct thing or should I change? Also, if I have time I use capacitor and Earthen wall Totem, but usually dont unless damage starts to level off.

Assuming you mean in m+ bc i can’t help with raids as im raiding this exp for the first time since wod.

I haven’t pushed Keys this expansion like i did last, and the coefficients are so different this may not be 100% accurate anymore. But for me it’s, cloudburst, riptide, rain, riptide, chain, wave/surge depending on how bad it is, riptide, primordial wave, wave, chain. Add a cool down if needed. But this should be fine for 8/10 situation, i suggest not stacking too many cd’s of yours, or with the tank, dps should be using their own personals if they stand in bad. Get elitismhelper add on to help clear up any confusion about whose fault it is when someone dies standing in sanguine or some other damage on the ground. Shaman has some ramp up for big heals but getting used to cloud burst is the biggest part about high key success imo. Releasing 20-30k in 1 gcd right as the group takes 6k x 5 players, is the best feeling you can get healing. Imo shaman is better than holy, shaman is just also harder than holy.

Don’t be afraid to spam the heck out of chain heal for a few gcds in a dungeon if needed

My problem with rain is that since the nerf it feels like a waste of a GCD with all the moving people do, but I’m not sure honestly. Good point on elitism helper, I may need to. Ran with someone that had it and he posted results showing the guy flaming us had 500k avoidable damage compared to the 50-120k of the rest. Didnt make the dungeon any better but he quit talking and hopefully learned.

Yeah it depends on class, but most dungeons are small enough that even if you are predominately ranged, you can get all of the ranged, and yourself into the rain. It’s only half for the healing from rain, and mostly for the cloudburst accumulation.

I personally don’t spam chain heal like the other guy said though, you should be weaving in waves/surges to utilize your tidal waves, using each heal on the lowest target.

Regarding your comment about the 500k guy. What would really burn you up, is looking through spell uptime, see what his uptime on his personal damage reduction ability was, see how many potions he used, see how many of his (if he had any) self heal he used. The number of people making any effort to make the healers life easier is so small it would blow your mind. Most personals are 2-3 min cd, meaning you can use them upwards of 10 times in a normal key. Most people use them 1 time if even.

I find it a ton easier to AOE heal with my shaman than my pally. Pally you have divine toll if thats on CD you have zilch for AOE heal.

Shaman you should have a couple riptide already rolling if you’re necro lord you can toss that up and healing wave will affect everyone with a rip tide. Outside of that cloud burst planned for the instance you know are is coming, you also have ascension, and if you have spiritewalkers you can drop manatide and spam like 5 chain heals back to back (only time I use chain heal in a danger situation). Add in your spirit link and a shaman’s mastery and you have the best AOE healing class in the game

Its more mana efficient to let dps that stand in fire to die by fire and rez. Sure it takes a long time to two man a boss but sometimes it has to be done.

What do you use to see that info? Hyst in the healing tab of Details?

A lot of shaman crap on Chain Heal, but an Unleashed Life boosted CH can give you a significant amount of healing if the party is clustered.

I usually Riptide to get people out of the red zone, Unleashed Life the lowest person, CH, Surge, Riptide, etc. Throw in a Primordial Wave+Healing Wave if you have it.

Also, I use Ascendance any time the party takes heavy damage. Don’t be afraid to use it.

I’ve mained holy priest for years but have been playing Resto lately. Getting used to and timing cloudburst is key. Ascendance is your go to for big group damage. Unleash Life + Chain heal does moderate healing as well. Don’t forget you have Healing Tide Totem as well.

Which info?

For failure damage I recommend elitismhelper.

Also use the “deaths” tab on details to see what killed someone.

For cloud burst measuring I use a weak aura, I also have one to measure high tide procs even tho I’ve switched too ascendency.

Sorry I meant how to tell if people are never using their defensives. I got an addon to track interrupts called OmniCD recently and it tracks defensives as well so I can just use that.

Ability team tracker, shows cool downs of individual players, you can also add/remove abilities to your liking.

I almost never use chain heal as it’s slow and expensive.
