If people haven’t seen this yet, here’s an image to show you how long the unlocks take:
So here’s what I’m doing, since the abilities in each category are 5 second unlocks: I’m ignoring the quick unlocks and saving my currency to unlock all of the categories first. Then I’ll go back and fill in as needed/wanted. That way, I’m not wasting research and having to wait even longer to get the categories unlocked.
But that’s just me. I really just wanted to share the breakdown of the time it takes, in case people didn’t know.

I have barely started … I head towards the quest goals and my brain sees a little pet on the map and dashes off to get it! Or as Doug would say “SQUIRREL!”

Yeah the first and second rows should be the first things you unlock, then the ones beneath them after, given the understandings are what unlocks the other quests and the pet and mount forge.

LOL! I did that with the jellyfish pet, obsessing for a day and a half over finding it in its four spawn points.

I’m doing the same haha because i want the mount perk… really bad that this wasn’t active since week 1, at least for me patch it’s just 3 world quest, 2 dailies…phishing for a strange goop item…considering buying it on the AH, i already wasted like 7-8 Hours there and still nothing.

I haven’t put in enough time yet for the goop. I got sidetracked by the jellyfish pet I obsessed over, because I love jellyfish.

Why does this time gate even exist? Cyphers are already heavily timegate by pocopoc energy, dailies, and world quests. Why does this timer exist? I don’t see the actual value.

you’re gated by the cypher you can acquire anyway. Just use that time to hoard them. Once your 3 days and some are over, you’ll just be able to research more at once.
To give you time to build up your currency, is my theory. By the time those three days are up, I’ll have enough currency to unlock the fourth section.
But my Alt can’t research the next one because another toon on my account is researching it. Why?
Something something “but your alts will get immediate research time after your main’s is finished” something something “I guess I don’t play my alts for a week and a half.” 
This is the worst take imaginable.
Yes, after your main completes researching it, your alts research it instantly.
That doesn’t mean “I don’t play my alts”. It means “Instead of my alts having to spend 5 days waiting, they don’t spend any time waiting.”
I have no idea why they made it this way, but it literally (and I meant that, for real, with the actual definition) DOES. NOT. MATTER.
