Heads up for Firefox user visiting Wowhead and any other sites

At some point today, Firefox certificates expired for many addons. The standard edition of the browser can not over ride that without a lot of extra work and thus many addons are just no longer active.
This can be problematic for those of us used to adblockers and script blockers protecting us from invasive ads around the internet.

I mention Wowhead specifically in the title because they run a lot of ads and scripts and getting hit with all that unexpectedly is not pleasant for some people.

Here is a link for anyone to get your addons back who is interested, without migrating to a different browser or using a developer version of Firefox:

My addons are still werking with Firefox. I’m just using uBlock and Dissenter.

What version of Firefox are you running? My uBlock is not functioning right now and it’s a fairly widespread issue from what I’ve looked up and read about.

Mozilla is already aware of whats going on and have made a tweet on it, they are trying to fix it asap.

Hugely inconvenient though

It’s version 66.0.3. The latest version.

Also Win 10 like Saphirrfox.

I have win 10 and my firefox addons are working.

My SO has win 7 and her firefox addons are not working.

We both have latest version.

I’m on Win 10 with same version as well, but mine aren’t working. Guess it didn’t hit everyone, but I know at least some other Win 10 users were hit as well.
Hopefully by the time I wake up tomorrow it will all be fixed :man_shrugging:

Using Firefox and windows 10, my addons are working.

  • ABP
  • Ghostery
  • Ublock

ublock origin is a better popup blocker than adblock plus these days; doesn’t let those pesky ads from wowhead through if thats what u were going for OP

Update: All of my Firefox addons are now gone after closing and reopening my browser.

Same.

I read this thread about 5 hours ago while not being affected, and was hoping it wouldn’t happen to me - but I just got a notification now that both Ublock Origin and Foxclocks are no longer working… sigh, this blows. :volcano:

Just switch to Opera. Sorosfox is just as intrusive and unethical as google.

I used ad block plus and no script. Are there better ones out there??

I only used Adblock Plus and it stopped working around 10 o’clock last night.

I checked out the ratings for the Add-on through Firefox and apparently they having issues with their new API (or something like that anyway) that is causing a lot to stop working.

They’re aware of the issue and working on it, but who knows when it will be fixed.

I only use uBlock Origin 1.18.6 and so far I have had no issues last night or today, including right now.

one word:

BRAVE

They’re rolling out a temporary fix in the next few hours.

However you need to go into options -> privacy and security and enable the ‘enable firefox studies’ checkbox. It’s not active right now, but they said this is something that will roll out in the next few hours.

Then they’ll work on the permanent fix instead of the temporary one.

Edit: Seems my firefox just updated, all my addons are back as well as my theme. Which was also disabled due to this bug.

I used to use Firefox. Ditched it in favor of Opera lately. Built in VPN. Good thing to have in this day and age.

Mine only broke about 30 mins ago and I do NOT want to enable them to read my data! This is not ok. Browsing without add blockers and script blockers is like fighting a fire without proper gear.

I’ve only enabled the studies for the hotfix… I’ve disabled every other study they have active.

Any others will be disabled immediately. Just wanted my addons back which they are at the moment. No idea when the full fix will be released though.
