Headphones/Earbuds or speakers?

Obviously when using voice comms like Discord, I assume everyone uses headphones/earbuds what have you…

But do you ever use speakers? I live alone and find myself preferring to use my headphones even when not on comms, despite having a really good sound system.

Mainly referring to when playing WoW here.

Game sounds on speakers.

Voice on headphones.

I like my music fairly loud, so I use headphones to be a good neighbor/housemate. Also, a bit hard not to echo the speakers through your mic, so there is that.

But I run good mid-level cans, plus Antlion’s Mod Mic. I’d have to spend quite a bit to replicate that with speakers.

I got some surround sound Sony wireless headphones. Everything sounds nice.

My left ear is poorly shaped to hold any type of earbud comfortably for any period of time.

It’s hot as balls in my room, so I go with speakers. My next door neighbor is a vacant lot too, so noise isn’t an issue.

i don’t own a pair of speakers, but i’ve got a super nice set of headphones and i don’t mind wearing them all the time

Depends. Do you live with others? Headset/bluetooth headset or earbuds. Live alone? Speakers.

Oh! Oh! Are you guilty of getting all the way to your car and then realizing you have them on, too?

I hear a lot better with headphones than speakers. I like the clarity of everything.

ah nah, mine are wired, so i just get aggravated when the cord gets trapped under my chair

Ah, I see. I used to dance for hours on corded cans. Not gonna lie, the second cordless was a viable option I grabbed it! I’m Freeeeeeee!

Speakers for everything with my desktop microphone unless I’m playing remote games with the family that require a controller, the only exception, and thus need to use auto-transmit and will just swap to my phone since at that point they probably want me on video anyway because they’re old and didn’t remote game before covid.

You can get a decent 2.1 system for less than 50 bucks, and having a dedicated subwolfer the sound is just superior imo. Have had the same sound system for over a decade, costed less than 80 bucks for microphone + speakers, never needed to charge it, never stood up and tugged on it, never had sweaty ears from wearing earbuds 8+ hours a day at my PC. I don’t see how anybody at all can stand to have earbuds or headphones on comfortably for 2+ hours, let alone the standard 8 I am usually playing, especially on drink nights with the guildies, that would drive me insane.

No. Speakers are annoying in my opinion.

Over ear headphones is my preferred for playing games and listening to music. In ear for exercise.

Can anyone suggest really high quality headphones for gaming? They don’t have to have a mic I use a high quality studio mic for that.

Yes I could just google this obviously, but curious what fellow WoW players use.

Beyerdynamic or audio technica.

I love my Sennheiser’s. You can buy replacement pads. I do that once every 2 yrs. I think mine are the HDR 185s. I use a mod mic for studio grade sound.

It’s bliss.

But a real audiophile would never go wireless - I’m not sure how “high quality” you’re looking for.

Bose’s always way more expensive than other brands but their sound quality is truly top of the line.
