Yeah there’s no reason not to have a version of the helm with/without and chest with/without. Blizzard just…didn’t…for some reason.

Exactly. Without the collar, the chestpiece looks like any generic forgettable texture that can be substituted with literally dozens of alternatives. What is even the point of it when its missing its most distinguishing feature?
Their ancient relic of an engine probably couldnt handle such herculean tasks as having the collar attached to the chest instead of the helm.
Everything has to be slapped together with duct tape here.
It was on the WoWHead PTR Dressing Room when it was first datamined! There was even a UI item icon made for it!

This was a deliberate decision made to put it on the helm. Made perhaps by some Fashionless and Tasteless individual.

Most of my characters don’t use helms. At most, they’ll use glasses, goggles, or other “accessory” pieces that allow their face to be seen, but nothing that covers their entire head.
Thus, this transmog has two pieces that are basically worthless to me. Similarly, the chest has very little in the way of distinguishing features when you wear a tabard. I think maybe there’s some arm armor bits that show up? But that’s about it. That makes 3 pieces of the set that don’t interest me.
If the “helm with collar” piece were swapped with a “chest with collar” piece, it would be better. You’d have a collarless chest piece for those who don’t like it, and you’d have a collared chest piece for those who did. People who like the helm can just… wear the helm with either chest piece. People who don’t do helms (like me) can still get the collar, but can also add glasses, goggles, etc. to it, too.
I’m honestly not certain why the decision was made to have the extra piece attach the collar to the helm instead of having an extra chest option.

Thats the wonderful thing, it is possible. The problem is they wont.
Definitely would be nice to have two versions of the chest–one with the collar, one without.

I look like a dang Alolan Exeggutor without a collar in this armor set. The helm reminds me of a failed bris with an acorn shaped tip.

That is horrendously accurate.
Especially when I play my Eredar, I always feel like a red crayon with a face on top in some of these tops that lack neck/shoulder details.

You can see in my avatar that there isn’t a collar.
There are two helms. One with the collar, and one without. The “default” appearance (the one that shows when you preview it on the Trading Post) is the part that has no collar.
That’s what’s baffling about this. Why add two head pieces (one with and one without collar) and not instead add two chest pieces (one with and one without collar). Having two chest pieces provides far more 'mog opportunities than having two helms items.
(Edited: Fixed my type above, wherein I stated the default Trading Post preview was the helm with the collar. It’s actually the helm without the collar that shows by default. I simply mis-typed originally. I’ve corrected it.)

And I wholeheartedly encourage this approach for all mogs they add in the future. Not just trading post stuff.
