Headhunter Hero Class

When I heard of the hero class talents I got excited since I knew headhunter had been one of the proposed hero classes when they were being thought out by Kevin Jordan, one of the original WoW devs. That side project of his died with the release of DKs (the proposed undead warrior hero class)

Well, we got the preview and headhunter is not one of them. Although they mentioned they were open to feedback and changes, I doubt we’ll get an axe chuckin’ talent tree.

I feel like a spec like headhunter has a place as a survival/bm “hero spec” and even moreso as a rework to current survival.

This would not only bring an iconic Warcraft class into WoW, but could even address some of the complaints about melee survival since throwing spears/axes is part of the theme.

What do you think?

100% down with that, hell now I’m wondering why Blizzard didn’t think of this themselves. Always thought pack leader sounded pretty redundant and uninspired, like they had no other ideas for a SV/BM theme. Tbh I don’t see our (totally existing) hunter dev wanting to make this change but who knows? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I’m sure there’s no dedicated hunter dev.

It just makes a lot more sense thematically than the bomb-centric spec we currently have.

Ever since survival went melee people have wanted dual wielding and some ranged alternatives. The headhunter theme addresses both of those requests. There’s even an opportunity for ranged and melee stances. Throwing weps + melee.

How? Bombs make just as much sense as throwing axes.

If it’s a BM/SV spec, it’s fine. But I want my SV/MM to not be chucking axes. Let me be Aaragorn instead, Ranger with a 2h Sword and Bow, focusing on my melee.

The Hunter Hero Classes are currently looking to be:

Hero Class Spec 1 Spec 2
Sentinel Survival Marksmanship (?)
Pack Leader Beastmaster Survival (?)
Dark Ranger Marksmanship Beastmaster (?)

Warcraft III Sentinels threw bouncing glaives, so it’s a hero class that will likely lean heavily into a “Death Chakram” (reworked visuals and name) ability.

Pack Leader will likely just extend the existing Beastmaster class/spec fantasy in a way that Survival can participate too.

Dark Ranger will likely focus around the original “Black Arrow” ability (from Warcraft III and earlier iterations in WoW) which summons a skeleton if it slays a target (hence why Marksmanship/Beastmaster make sense to me).

Replacing Pack Leader with Headhunter would seem like a reasonable trade. The first talent for Headhunter would need to be something like this:

You develop the ability to use smaller weapons as throwing weapons. While dual-wielding one-handed weapons, the range of all your melee attacks and abilities increases by 20 yards.

Auto attacks with throwing weapons grant Frenzy, increasing your attack speed by 20%, stacking up to 5 times.

Some follow-up talents could be things like:

Focus abilities consume all stacks of Frenzy to increase their effects by 10% per stack.

Frenzy causes your auto attacks to generate 1 Focus per stack.

Frenzy can now stack up to 10 times.

Your auto attacks can no longer miss.

etc
