Will WoW ever have a dedicated HDR support?
No one on the forums would know the answer to that, since it’s entirely in the hands of the developers, and they (a) don’t come here, (b) don’t answer questions about future plans even if they did.
The most you might expect is to see a public release describing that, or a roadmap that includes that info. Other than that, the answer is
I was hoping for a blue post response.
There are no blue posters in Technical Support.
Add that to the list of reasons why your question won’t be answered.
i think on twitter devs will sometimes respond to stuff like this, but it isn’t generally something you’ll ever get an answer to. If they’re going to add it they will announce it. At best they will just say they hope to add it sometime.
Unfortunately you’ve posted in a player support forum. Suggestions are handled by the in game suggestion feature or through the general discussion forum you’ll want to post in either of those places.
Not saying it won’t ever support it, but it require a lot of massive changes to the rendering pipeline and having to go around and redo all of the lighting in every single scene in the game to account for the new color space range. Sure, they could come up with a rough converter(kind of like autohdr in Windows) for old content and then use more accurate lighting in new content, but it’s not an easy task.
Either way, it would be a pretty massive change to the game, targeted at a pretty small percentage of players. Most people that have an “HDR” display just have a screen that can get pretty bright and with a wide color gamut, but they usually only do global dimming (no local dimming zones). My screen I’m using right now is like that. Even 4k screens only account for ~4% of all displays, so I’d image real HDR displays are probably somewhere around that as well aka not worth the effort to implement in the game at the moment or any time soon.
