See, I’m gonna discuss this with HC people once I’ve chilled a bit.
What I think the idea is right now, is that when you die, you have to delete that character and roll a new person. But no one’s really stated this in stone as required and I feel like that does an injustice to characters who haven’t even RPd yet and have no IC history.
What I want the idea to be is something more like…if you die, you have the option to either roll a new person, or reroll the original one you had and have to do something like keep them in town to heal from an almost moral wound (woons!) for a few IC days, or until a healer can actually heal them.
Or…have a 3-count of lives and you can die 3x from game mechanics, so the first 2 are mortal wounds (woons!) but on death x3 you have to roll a new person.
Or…every time you die, you lose something, like blinded in 1 eye, walk with a limp, lose memories, etc.
Or…death in lower level zones count for less than death in a higher level zone, so maybe you’re only wounded (woons!) in Elwynn, but you’re dead in Winterspring.
Or…a combination of these things.
I feel like there definitely has to be consequences, but I don’t think we should pigeon hole someone into a forced character death when there are other options available. One of my pet peeves in D&D is working up a complicated and well thought out character get killed right out the gate.
Currently my big strategy is that I have 3 RP characters. One is my adventurer. One is my back up adventurer, and one is my bank toon who stays in town. That way I’ve always got one for continuity even if the other two bite it. It’s also not as harsh of a death if you have a back up, and you can get rested XP if you’ve got one in-town while you’re questing on another one.
My bank toon is level 5 and I managed to find a fairly cute outfit for her. She’s a merchant ICly so it makes sense that she’s not venturing out very far. I’d like to get her up a little higher, but I’m definitely not risking my 2g that I’m sitting on just so I can say she’s level 10.
