So ill start off by saying I have only been on the HC scene for about a week and im sure this will anger some of the purists out there, but I have played this game at all levels for a very long time. So agree or disagree these are a few things ive been thinking about because we all know there is no way blizz releases a server with things like no AH or trading.
-Giving low levels twink gear
—Seems very easy just put level reqs on everything. Bags can be in intervals of 10 so 10 for 6 then 20 for 8 so on until 50 for 14, 55 for 16 and 60 for 18. Enchants can be handled the same way with needing 55+ for crusader 35 or 45 for firey.
-raiding
—End game is something the game needs otherwise most people will get bored of just a pure leveling server and raiding has always been a big part of that. As it is now i see it as being virtually impossible to get into a grp to raid with a high probability of losing everything. I think making it so a death in raid should just lock out that char until the tuesday reset. This will slow down raiding a lot for most and still allow people to play their character to progress slowly at cap level otherwise for 99% of the pop HC servers will be nothing but a niche leveling server that will die off rather quickly as people lose interest in nothing but leveling over and over in the same zones with no real goal to work towards.
-pvp and griefing
—If things stay how they are the only pvp will be people trying to bait lowbies into attacking pets or stealthed characters so they can kill them and force them to start over. No one is going to queue for bgs and all servers will have to be pve servers as a pvp server just wouldnt work. Let each character have so many pvp deaths per week say 100 deaths as a example and then you cannot gain any honor for the rest of the week. This will do a couple of things. You can now actually pvp if you want to, greifing will not be as big of a problem, and it will fix a long standing problem with the honor grind of it being nothing more then who can be logged on for more hours each week. Better players will die less and make more honor per week.
So there is my long post with some ideas. Now flame away at yet another person making one of these topics but hey i didnt give blizz 20 more bucks to play d4 early so insert looking out window memes here.
Like i said the purists wont like it but im actually thinking for longevity of it. I dont know a single person personally who will go past trying it once or twice then moving on when they realize there is nothing else but just level new characters over and over again. Some people enjoy leveling every class on both factions but most dont.
Its some ideas because we all know blizz isnt releasing a HC server thats not going to have a bunch of changes and they arnt going to keep paying to keep up servers for a very very small part of the population. If the goal is to have a few servers that they force move to era or wotlk in around 6 months then keep it how it is in a purist way. The best option for those people is to make a new private server.
Long story short we all know blizz wants to maximize profits and they might like riding hype trains and trends like what HC is but it still is niche and without somethings to keep people after leveling it will die off and be closed.
So feel free to post your great ideas you are keeping a secret if mine are so bad.
My bad i didnt know i was dealing with someone who was born hard core and has always been hard core.
Btw how is that hc break from your post literally 3 posts down treating you? You died in rfc and said needed to take a break till official servers. So doesnt sound like thats a good sign when you said you need a break for whats going to most likely be half a year or more out after a not even level 20 death.
Wow is also not a game that was ever made for a hard core game mode its a mmo. Most people who play mmos only enjoy the leveling so much thats why blizz can get away with selling level boosts as much as i hate that. Since i started playing about a year after release ive only ever known one person who solely plays for no other reason then to level from 1 to max and start all over and he doesnt even play the game any more because guess what? He hit max on every class on both alliance and horde.
Giving everyone Twink gear would eliminate the whole point of HC, leveling as HC in classic isn’t hard and doesn’t require Twink gear, in general it means being more careful and aware. Part of what makes HC fun is that it’s a challenge, if you give everything to people, you take that away. Also its extremely unlikely that Blizzard will follow the HC ruleset for their HC server, meaning you will likely be able to buy bags, or say do dungeons multiple times to get some key pieces of gear, I would expect some restrictions however, like level range restrictions in groups to prevent power leveling.
As for Raiding, even given a single death (per raid lockout) will not change raiding in HC, it simply will never be a big part of the game. To really raid HC you need a strong solid team that can coordinate well and where they really spare no expense, casual raids or raids like GDKPs will simply not happen because the stress, effort and cost is to high. I would also say in general the type of people who come to the HC server are not the same ones that want to push raid content at the effort it will take. To really make raids viable, Blizzard would need to put a lot of effort into rebalancing raids so to reduce some of the risks and make them viable maybe with smaller groups. I don’t really see them putting this effort in for a single server.
Many of the issues with griefing go away with a HC server, the problem with griefing right now is the people doing the griefing have no penalty, as they don’t play by the same rules, if they die no big deal, they just come back and continue to grief, while those hunting them are at risk. On a HC server, they will die and be required to level all over, does this mean that there won’t be griefers? nope, but it means that there is a solution to them, you hunt them down and kill them. As for BGs they don’t really have a place oh a HC server, and any pvp gear would create huge imbalance issues, especially with raiding not being viable.
It’s fine for hardcore. It’s just that people seem to want an easier version of hardcore and use the mmo thing as a reason, it’s not.
If people don’t like leveling they have other options. Era and retail have boosts, seasonal has accelerated leveling. Maybe hardcore just isn’t the game for them?
So he reached his limit. Everyone does at some point and for a lot of reasons. I know people who’ve played for years and have a zillion characters. The game offers something for almost everyone. Especially with all the different modes they have now.
I think for greifing it wouldnt be hard to level a char to say 30 go to lower level zone log in randomly kill a person or 2 and log off before anyone can show up on higher levels to kill them.
For raiding i dont think they need to make that many changes. If you got 1 death per reset inside a raid this would still make it very hard to fully clear everything while still having a threat. Tanks die? To many people die? Full wipe? Well you arnt clearing that week. Who wants to run anything with a mc when your zug brain wars are just going to cleave you down.
Saying pvp gear throws off the balance of the servers is kind of pointless to worry about when there is no balance most people wont make it to cap and those that do 99% wont find a guild to do any 60 content with anyways under the current system.
Hell they should also remove petrification flasks. That would make it more hc because people wont have a way out to stop deaths any more.
Hc is for some it isnt for others i 100% agree but if thats the case you just want to play the game solo and if you die you restart and thats fine for anyone who wants to put those rules on themselves. However, anyone can continue to do that on the current era servers with 0 issues. Im not one to try and force any play style on anyone, do what you want. All im saying is if they are coming out with new hc servers if they put these super strict restrictions on everyone i see these being very low pop servers very fast and closing down just to lose anything you did.
I like challenges i would def try this out. I just dont want to level a char to 60 that i enjoy then be like ok now i cant play it ill just log on to look at it in org or sw every once in a while and then blizz closes server. At that point would rather do the challenge on bloodsail like i am now.
The most ironic thing of this post is the idea of circumventing death=delete and I actually see many people trying to make the same argument.
This add on the community uses and the fact there are appeals have some people confused because I don’t get how people say hey what if hardcore had all this but wasn’t death=delete when Hardcore is completely centered and evolved around the one singular basic concept that you have 1 life.
I don’t think you should get second chances in hardcore, even if you are 60. Might be better to ask for an option to transfer off the server if you die at max level. That way you don’t loose progress, if that’s what troubles you.
It still takes quite a bit of time to get to 30, and they will get hunted down, that solves the real problem, Griefers are well known on pvp servers, and if there is a HC server they will get hunted down, to be honest it will give the 60s something to do.
One death will not solve the problem with raids, I have raided in HC, and its simply not worth the effort and there are few people willing to put in the effort needed on a weekly basis, while its certainly possible there could be a couple raid guilds do early raids, raids like AQ40 will almost never be possible, these raids are punishing until you get gear. Though with world buffs and Era bosses it wouldn’t be as bad as it was on SOM.
If you don’t think PvP gear would cause a problem, then not sure what to say. the Epic PvP gear is equivalent to that in Naxx gear levels, and its problematic on the Era/SOM servers initially since its so out of balance with everything else. In general the top gear on the HC server will be .5 sets with potentially some MC or ZG gear for the people who are really sweaty.
Also if they want to remove Petri flasks, eliminate the option to bubble hearth, that seems perfectly reasonable.
None of it really troubles me i want to see more play styles and i want to see things last for a long time. If thats what they end up doing thats on them. One big point im making is we all know blizz is going to make changes. These servers are not going to release as a copy paste of the addon.
Its kind of ironic that some people want a hc server that is the exact same thing as the addon which they already have. So why split a niche pop even more if thats the case.
The pvp gear was more like aq levels then nax. This also depends a lot on how they releases phases. Hc started on servers where all phases were already released. If they go back to how it was when classic first launched no one had the pvp gear in mc it wasnt until bwl came out that you started to see raid teams running around in GM/HWL gear. They also could limit it even more and make rank 12/13 armor and 14 weapons not available until at least aq, which would fix that issue.
As a side note i think world buffs were the worst part about classic. Made the content way easier felt horrible when you lost buffs and locked out your main character for half the week so you could sit on buffs.
