So I love HC and I love SoD. HC is the way I always want to play classic. It has a better community, it focuses the game on the journey rather than the end. It’s not a massive race to level cap and it’s worth taking your time to get upgrades wherever you can. I also enjoy not having the GOGOGO AOE AOE bunch around.
That said, SoD is a total blast. I’m enjoying the changes to classes. They feel like they should always have been there (for the most part) and I’m having fun like I haven’t had since original vanilla.
Unfortunately it sounds like both of these are seasonal. I know SoD is, but not sure about HC. I guess I’m worried that if Blizzard don’t see the numbers on the HC servers that they’ll decide it was a bad idea and drop them.
If it wasn’t for SoD right now I’d be no-lifing it in HC. HC also has the potential to keep me subscribed for years to come with no major investment from Blizzard.
So anyone know what the potential is for HC? Is this something that will stick around in the background for the foreseeable future or do we have less than a year of it left?
HC brought me back to WoW after a 20 year hiatus. I tried SoD but after reaching 25 I quickly realized it’s not for me. Hopefully HC servers will start to pick up steam again. I have no interest in playing non HC classic WoW.
It would be nice if the Shaman Enhancement tree received some tweaks to make tanking more viable – that way Horde could have three classes that are capable of tanking (but nobody wants to tank) like Alliance do.
I’m referring mostly to the Paladin and Warrior changes. Are they perfect? No, but having an extra button to hit on the Paladin rotation that also gives back a tiny bit of mana so we can keep doing stuff instead of auto attacking makes for a more interesting game. Same for warrior Victory Rush.
Should Mages be healing and rogues tanking? Dunno. I can’t say it’s ruined anyone’s game experience. There may be some warrior or priest players who are salty that they’re not considered the only viable tanks / healers anymore, but hey, we’re better off without them.
If a player tanks well, great, let them tank, if they don’t, someone else will. This is an experiment and the team has a very measured and conservative approach to what could actually go forward after this, so I don’t expect all of these changes to necessarily go beyond a bit of fun for this season.
And if they end up taking Classic+ in a direction that’s not fun, I still have era/HC/cough ‘freelance’ cough servers and even other games entirely.
So yes, the changes I’ve experienced do feel like they’re a natural part of the game. It still feels like classic.
I think they understand, and are even strategizing for, people going back and forth. The reason they are developing all these different modes are to keep people subbed instead of just a sub every 6 months or something. So they likely understand each mode will have ghost town phases.
HC will probably have a vibrant leveling scene for a long time to come but I imagine it won’t have much of an endgame scene before too long. With no new content added to HC unless people want to just keep killing the same bosses over and over I just see the raiders moving on eventually.
Most people that I’ve seen die at 60 in a dungeon/raid treat it more like “well that was fun while it lasted” Only a handful seem down to “go again” when you technically had already “won”
I wish the HC players had their own low-pop server to play on. Lava Lash is an awesome, social RP server, and it’s very frustrating having the anti-social HC players not work with us on quest bosses.
EDIT Faction tagging of quest open world bosses would be a HUGE help and remove the resentment between HC and non-HC players.
This.
Even though Blizz has done a good job with SoD, I went back to HC for the feels.
GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO AOE AOE OOOHH LOOK AT MY PARSES I AM A GOD killed SoD for me. To each his own.
I for one plan to live in HC for a long time. I’m looking forward to SF HC (and hoping for a SF-only server).
