TLDR: PC lagging and game crashing after today’s little update. Launcher said WoW started an update. I walked away from the computer, and I assume it updated. Now my game freezes, and tries to “restore down/Maximize” the game every few seconds while moving.
Hey, I turned my PC on, threw the Launcher up, and WoW said it had started an update. I went and bunned around for a few mins, and when I came back everything looked like it was good to go.
But now, while playing, my game is constantly freezing, and trying to “resize” itself. (Ie. “Restore down/Maximize” the window.)
It’ll freeze anywhere between 3-10 seconds (as if it’s lagging) do the resizing about 3-4 times really quickly, and then freeze again, and settle itself out. It does this every 30 seconds while I’m moving. If I’m standing still not pressing any keys, it doesn’t happen. But as soon as I start running around it does.
My entire PC seems to lock up for a second or two when it first stats to happen. (My second monitor will lock up for a second, and then unfreeze while the game is bugging out.)
I recently upgraded some parts on my PC, so I don’t think it’s that. Especially considering this has NEVER happened before. It’s only ever happened right now. Tonight. As of logging in 10 mins ago.
I tried restarting my router/modem to see if it was an internet thing, but my internet is running fine. Videos play fine, the forums are working. Like I said, if I’m standing still in game, nothing happens. It’s only when I start moving.
Ideas?

It’s the game. What you describe has happened to me some months ago, was very annoying.
- I know I’ll probably have that very same thing again happening to me when I log in so I’ll wait.
I think they’ll adjust/tweak it.
So I just have to wait it out?
Any idea what’s causing it? How long did it take to fix last time it happened to you? Am I out of playing for the night?
Months before it stopped happening. I never bothered to follow up with it though.
I did uninstall and reinstall about 5 times. It sucks. People always said it was my computer.
It’s not our computers and I’m not the only one. It’s the game.
- Idk if you’re out playing for the night. Maybe someone else with way more knowledge about stuff like this can answer your questions.
I only know from my personal experience. I’m not tech savvy.
I am having a similar issue with in-game lag. Where all I see are players running in place.
My completely uneducated guess as a person who has spent many a years in the pit of despair led by wow is. The patch today turned on the background down loader in prep for SL. So it is taking memory and/or internet usage for that, and bottle-necking the connection to WoW.
Again, completely uneducated guess.

So, after posing my issue to the Blizzardcs twitter account, they came back with “Update your drivers”…
My Drivers are up to date. At least as of last night they were. Why do they think their update would affect my drivers? I was playing just fine last night, and the rest of my PC works just fine.
They have great customer support. lol.
