Have you ever tried a class you think you'll hate?

And ended up absolutely loving it? If so, what class and why?

I started a Death Knight recently, despite hating the “flavor” of the class. I was itching for that necromancer pet class feel.

After gearing up, I’m in love. It might even become my new main!

So what’s your class you thought you’d hate?

At this point, for as long as I’ve played this game, the very thing you described has happened to me at least once for most classes. Only a few have just never hit that sweet spot that makes me actually like the feel of a class. Paladin, Priest, and Monk. I think those are the only ones I’ve never liked no matter how many times I’ve tried them. I hadn’t honestly played DK beyond alt leveling for cosmetics in I don’t even know how long until early Shadowlands. Tried it again and once I got the feel for it, I ended up maining it as either UH or Frost for the majority of this expansion so far.

Demonology Warlock honestly. I just have a blast trying to get as many demons onto the field at once as possible. I even intentionally specced wrong, choosing every talent that gave me more demons.

Have you ever taken a Demo Lock into Torghast??? LOL talk about having more demons than you know what to do with if you want. I think I’ve logged more hours in Twisting Corridors just for funsies on this character than literally anything else this whole expansion just because of how much fun it can be as a Demo Lock with the right anima powers. It’s glorious.

I’ve never tried it actually but if that’s the case Ill definitely give it a go!

There’s a power that makes your main demon gain 100% HP and damage every floor you climb for 5 floors. Then there’s separate powers that further boost its HP and damage. It can solo entire floors, including elites, rares, and bosses, if you stack all of these powers early, but only up to the early to mid teen floors. I’ve had that demon at over 4 million HP by the final floor. Then there’s a power that removes the soul shard requirement for Hand of Gul’dan, making it cost 10% max HP instead. So you can have 50+ imps out at once if you get enough haste to spam it over and over very fast…and that’s just the beginning. Layers 4-6 are the sweet spot in my experience, but that was at lower ilvls much earlier in the expansion.

well- what i have not felt is a connection with a mage or rogue; just can not play those well

i might try a new monk or paladin in the coming weeks- havent really given those classes a good test drive

Rogue. I’m normally a mage or archer guy. So, I naturally disliked rogues.

Playing one, being on the other side of the unending CC combo, feels great. I love it.

I tried feral druid, which I thought I would hate as soon as I learned that it was a melee dot spec! And to my surprise, I was right! But I haven’t given up yet, I still want to see what I can do with it this patch.

I was working on completing all the Legion class halls, so I made an enhancement shaman. I never liked shaman at all, but enhancement surprised me with how much fun it is to play. The Dark Iron Dwarf heritage armor made it even better!

I started a Destro lock a few weeks ago and I have fallen in love. Ive mained a BM hunter nearly 14 years (Both horde and ally) but Destro is a lot of fun. Chaos bolt has to be one of the best spells. I’m considering maining it now. Never thought that would happen.

I rolled more than one warlock for awhile and capped at least one despite never having liked the aesthetic of the demons. The only class I actually deleted, after I realized I couldn’t complete the green fire quest (failed that goofy eye of kilrogg part about 100 times) I just lost all interest and never looked back.

The only class I’ve never capped is monk, and even that I got into the 30’s or 40’s. When you’ve been playing as long as I have you just want to try new things after awhile. I did the same thing with a DK, hadn’t played it since wrath, and really liked the current frost iteration. Then I was handed four 2 handers in a row when all I wanted was to dual wield and it’s been in the bin ever since, as I have no reason to believe it won’t continue to happen in ZM.

Better to be a paladin, at least with this class I know I’ll always get the weapon my spec actually uses.

Holy Paladin. The idea of being a melee healer freaked me out, but it was actually really fun, at least in low stakes leveling dungeons.

Probably Balance Druid. I like the spell effects. I like firing off multiple Starsurges (esp. w/ 4p Tier & Timeworn Dreambinder leggo). Love Cyclone. I don’t know what I thought before I started playing it to be honest, although I might not enjoy it as much if it weren’t a Tauren.

Warrior. Love it SO much, second favorite for sure. Favorite will always be hunter.

I don’t hate classes, but I prefer classes who can heal, because healing in dungeons/raids is the only role I enjoy.

I really enjoy Mage and Warrior, but unfortunately they can’t heal, and I really suck at being DPS!

I just returned after being away since 2012, and I’m not even raiding yet - and even too nervous to join a dungeon - so why this is even a concern right now is a mystery.

DK, I was worried I wouldn’t like a melee class as much but it’s been fun. I have to retrain myself not to run up to creatures when I’m playing a ranged class now

I have the same mindset. I’d love to play a hunter / warrior / etc, but not having a heal spec is a total turnoff.

Prot Warrior: I started it because I was running a Raiding Guild in Legion and while I could tank just fine on my Hunter (a different one - I start over every few xpacs) in 5-man, I couldn’t do it in Raids because of specific Tank mechanics that it wouldn’t recognize me for.

It turned out I like tanking a bit more than I thought I would and I really loved Prot Warriors, mostly for their mobility and (at the time) self-healing capability. Give me a room with a dozen trash mobs coming at me while I was tanking the boss and I could outheal the entire raid.

Frost Death Knight: I had never played one and I was running RBGs in BfA. I needed a viable melee toon because putting groups together was torture and with at least a little variability in what I could play myself, I could fill in whatever wasn’t filled and get them going faster.

I never got as good with my FDK as I did with my Prot Warrior or my Hunter (I’m still trying to master it, but I’ve done 8/11 in SotFO on Normal with him), but I like the play style and once I found the Death Strike button (oddly not mentioned in the wiki I was using to set up my rotational cues) he’s really hard to kill.

Inverse of this is Discipline Priest - I really, really, REALLY wanted to like this but the play was just beyond my ability. He’s sitting idle and will for a long time I expect.

A bear many years ago when I was young and weird.

Twenty year old me: “It’s too ez I’m gonna be bored.”

Thirty four year old me: Oh thank the stars for an ez rotation

Favorite spec there is now and I love so few buttons.
