Have you even actually been in a cave in real life?

“Does Crocodile Harry’s House, in Australia, count? It’s a big house, made out of an old Opal Mine, that was cut into a hill side.”

Caves, tunnels, old mine shafts, you name it.

I dunno man, do undead servants even exist or flying unicorns that take you places?

of course there are caverns like that in real life.

Did you know there was a vast river system discovered under the Sahara Desert?

Once you get past the first little bit, caves and mines are stygian - complete and utter darkness. If you didn’t have a light with you, you could be touching your nose with your hand and couldn’t see it.

Luray Caverns are crazy. They kinda remind me of Mauradon.

Been to Kartchner Cavarans State Park here in Arizona, Mystic Cavarans in Arkansas, and one smaller cave in Mexico in the 80s that I don’t remember the name and isn’t marked on the map anymore that I can see.

It was really weird as we drove from Cancun sorta inland maybe, about 45 minutes. No visitor center or buildings, just this dense forestry area with a clearing on a dirt road. A Dutch couple and German couple showed up at the supposed time - after awhile this little Mexican guys shows up on a moped, collects our money and ushers the six of us in. Like caves, but was mostly just a dry cavern. The first two are more stunning.

I’ve been to the longhorn caverns in Texas a lot and they’re quite big. Lots of smugglers used it back in the day. I think it was a speakeasy during prohibition too. Huge caverns and deep pitfalls. No idea how deep it really goes. A town in Texas is named bee caves because there were caves with bees there at one point.

I went on a school expedition to a cave when I lived in France. We got to a big rock and the instructor said ‘you can go under the rock, there is a small gap’, I thought ‘hell no’ but my friend squeezed underneath and went through the little gap, she had to shimmy though. I shuddered as thoughts of getting stuck went through my mind. Next we got to a little gap in the wall and had to go through. Took me ages to get through, I was turning and twisting for at least 5 minutes trying to fit and all the other kids were complaining. I was mortified as I held everyone up for ages. I never went to a cave again especially as I read stories of people getting stuck in small crevices head first as they believed it opened up but they were wrong. It’s called potholing or something. Sounds like a nightmare.

They’re usually narrow and obviously dark. Often you can’t stand up straight, and usually end up crawling on your stomach in places.

Caverns are usually what you’re thinking of, but again, dark.

i was never able to book a scheduled visit to there despite being stationed close by in Fort Huachuca 2005-2011

otherwise, i’ve never been in any IRL caves. only been in road tunnels on the East coast and that one near Bisbee

Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. You start off my taking an elevator seven floors down to the first cave.

Does minecraft count as real life?

I’ve been in actual ‘normal’ caves in Wisconsin, which are usually narrow as a hallway, and Megacaverns like Carlsbad.

Something like WC is very believable from the standpoint of Carlsbad Caverns.

Pitch black.

Like D&D someone has to use magical lighting or hold a mundane source like a torch or lantern… Would not necessarily translate well into a video game like wow. I still remember wandering in the dark in Sword of Vermillion back in the early 90’s because I ran out of candles.

Been here too as well as bunches of others for non-tourist spelunking enthusiasts. Most have had small openings to wiggle through that open up to larger areas that are not flat at all. The ones where you inchworm through like a small storm drains are a blast. They often connect larger caverns together making them like a string of beads. Just be sure to carry at least 4 flashlights with you cause they don’t come with lights included. Many of these also have a stand with a sign in/out notebook as you come and go into the cave (in case they need to retrieve your body).

I used to go to Marianna Caverns in Marianna, FL all the time as a kid.

It’s not as big as say Mammoth but it’s a lot prettier.

For looks? Yes.
For the antics that we do in those cave dungeons. Nope.

IE: Hunter causes a cave-in with his/her/it’s guns.

I’ve always had claustrophobia but as I got older it’s got a lot worse. I can’t do caves anymore and for MRIs I have to take a pill to zonk me out.

No but I have always wanted to.

Especially an ice cave! (I know that’s extremely dangerous lol)
