First let me say sorry if there is information how how the new domination gear will effect pvp. I was unable to find what I was looking for.
The title explains the question not on a technical standpoint but one of player power. I enjoy pvp partly because I can do 2 or 3 arenas and hop off sometimes. No 45min obligation to a m+ or 2 1/2hrs to a raid.

You can queue up for Solo Queue Skirmishes without any gear if you wanted to!
so, it’s kinda weird
mythic raid ilvl is 252
duelist (pvp) ilvl is 259
so chances are if you’re full duelist gear, the domination sockets probably wont be worth losing 7 ilvl on 5 pieces
esp since they might not even have versatility on them
however, if you’re a casual player that gets 1600/1800 gear
by the middle of the season mythic raiders playing in your bracket could def just be better than you for having 5 PvE gems even if your ilvls are similar
though with that said, the last 2 bosses drop 259 ilvl loot
so it could be slight value having 1 of those pieces with 1 domination gem but probably not a significant enough value that you’d outright lose a game to it
bis pvp gear will be less than 2% weaker than bis pve+pvp gear, if not equal, in pvp.

So the raid sockets will be viable in pvp? Cause they actually do seem kinda nice tbh. The extra leech and the absorb shield seem pretty helpful for dh especially.
This reminds me, are current PvE trinkets nerfed in PvP or do people just not use them because of the PvP trinket bonus? I can’t remember at this point but I think they’re nerfed as the bonus doesn’t seem like enough on it’s own to deter their use. If they are nerfed then I wonder if they will nerf the new pve trinkets for pvp in 9.1. I’m guessing not unless we all make a huge stink over it to remind them.
If you watch the video this user posted of Preach talking about the gems (Start from 1:10). Having 3 set piece dps gems that aren’t even of the same color provide a 9% increase bonus in dps. If you do raid and get 3 gems of the same color, I assume it will be even higher.
In a sense you don’t have to pve, but will be behind those who raid.

end boss mythic gear is same ilvl as top pvp gear + most domination socket gear is verse/x, clothies have 4 potential options for it from last 2 bosses as an example, ive also seen people say 1 single dps gem is doing 7~% of their damage and 1 healing gem is doing 10% of their healing currently. if they dont get toned down massively or disabled in pvp its guna be a shtshow
