Starting yesterday, every login requires the full password. This is hardly earthshattering, just an oddity and mild irritation. How do I set it up that logging in goes straight to character select again?

Try unchecking both, closing out the launcher completely, then rechecking them. And of course, you can also try rebooting your PC, changing the password, etc.
