The world trees(at least the big two Teldrassil and Nordrassil) have always had this vague purpose of helping “strengthen nature/helping nature heal”. And presumably Amirdrassil will have the same purpose. So why not have it have an actual ingame ineffect to show how useful it can be to Azeroth at least and be the reason felwood is being cleansed?
Amirdrassil isn’t leaving the Dragon Isles. The zone is going to fit off the coast of Ohn’aran plains. Night elves are never getting Kalimdor back. It’s joever.
You make it sound Amirdrassil has to even be near Felwood to somehow “magic” away the fel. And just because they are getting a new home doesn’t mean they have to leave their old ones.
If there is ever going to be a Kalimdor revamp you will see it cleansed most likely.
Though there may be bits and pieces that are still uncleansed.
Why would Amirdrassil cleanse a zone half way across the world? It’s more likely to cleanse blight from Northrend.
As mentioned, Amidrisaal is actually closer to Quel’thalas and Northrend than it is to Felwood, and even if it was close to Felwood, how would the tree eliminate all the demons and fel magic?
How does anything have to function in WoW? Again “magic”. Blizzard could simply make it so the souls of in Amirdrassil still have a connection to their ancient home in Kalimdor and thus allow the tree’s healing/renewal properties to be directly translating to helping Kalimdor heal for the scars of all its wars/destruction.
Even magic must follow certain norms in fantasy. Like diminishing effect with distance.
No, it doesn’t. It is literally magic we don’t need some grand explanation for it and at best only a plausible reasoning.
Your magic sucks.
Warcraft magic has always been used to further the plot. It bends(and yes sometimes breaks) for it. Amirdrassil actually being useful and have more then lip service use to actual renewal would generally be better. And tying it back to the night elves even more so.
You do not even need magic at a distance. Perhaps the sap of Amirdrassil has special properties which restore the natural balance that could be exploited. Perhaps you could carry a branch of it and use it as a conduit of the world tree’s power. I came up with both of those on the spot, so there is for sure means to using it in questing if they ever feel like it.
remember how felwood was corrupt because the tree was corrupted after archimondes death and it leaked downstream
but then we got to hyjal in cata and it was clean already
Eh? Felwood was corrupted by Tichondrius using the Skull of Gul’dan. That is where Illidan consumed its powers and got all super demon-ified.
Nice idea on how to finally heal Felwood but we shouldnt have to accept a new Tree planted at the opposite side of the world.
You say Blizzard can come up with any reason using magic so I say why don’t Blizzard use any magical reason to to move Amirdrassil to Kalimdor?
For the simple reason this was likely coded into the game already. Look, I would prefer the new tree be in Kalimdor if for no other reason to help project Alliance power more in that continent. But that ship has likely sailed at least for now.
Have you forgotten that when the Sunwell was restored its magical properties affected all the high elves of Azeroth, not just those who resided in Quel’thalas?
It makes perfect sense that Amirdrassil affects, for example, all night elves on the planet and all its lands that have a certain connection with nature.
But it’s nice that High Elves have their Font of Power next to their Seat of Power meaining Silvemoon City next to the Isle of Quel’danas.
Blizzard could have come up with plenty of ideas to plant the new tree in Kaldorei lands but they didn’t.
They could just magic up an excuse.
“Amirdrassil sits atop a parallel layline to Felwood, Adventurer. The new world tree’s magic is coursing through the arcane channel and purging the land of its fel taint!”.
For the topic idea, the location of the tree doesn’t matter. And this idea has support in the game’s tradition.
