Specifically weak auras or dbm. I’m sure there’s others but I don’t use them so I can’t really say for sure.
The only addons I got are dbm because it feels like a requirement, dos meter just so I can check if I suck or not and rarescanner.
With mods like dbm or ones telling what moves to do and when or where to stand it seems like it takes the soul out of the game. It would be similar to playing a fighting game with a combo list popping up on the screen. The majority of people use them, especially a high content so if you don’t your far behind the curve. I’d imagine the people that do have it have inflated self worth because it leads them to think their better players than the rest and would just hype egos which probably doesn’t help with the in game community being as bad as it’s portrayed. Now by definition it may actually make you a better player because your being spoon fed exactly what to do but it’s not natural.
Without these mods each encounter would be determined good or bad solely on whether or not the boss died. There would be no specific calling out or comparing oneself to another. “I did what it told me, why are you not doing the mechanics” that line of thought leads to thinking everyone else is an idiot for not knowing. There’s no common ground to teach and explain encounters, just download the add on. I think blizzard knows this as well and maybe even creates content with this in mind.
I miss more than anything about going into a dungeon and everybody is just as clueless as I am and just working together to solve the problem. Now you may only get that experience in the first few days of an expac if your lucky.
I wish there was a new server opened, fresh, that didn’t allow add-ons. I was raiding mythic nya with none on my PC and it was intense I had to be perfectly on point, it was cool. My in law installed DBM and it made it way easier, too easy… since I haven’t stopped using it since then I feel like Itll make me worse than others unable to compete. But if I knew everyone on the server also didn’t have access… If it was a server then everyone could win, people who love them get to keep them and it won’t impact the entire game. It WAY too late to remove add-ons now it would have to have been done in vanilla or not even allowed in vanilla, I think a huge number would unsub if add-ons were forcibly removed
Did you read his post? Other people playing a server with no add-ons doesn’t change your game either in his post (and others) people feel that an addon telling you what to do and when to do it makes it so players have half the work done for them. Just because YOU would be lost without the addon doesn’t mean others will, some of us can actually play it like other games and pay attention. A server without add-ons will satisfy the people who want the challenge and knowledge that they are using skill rather than a program guiding every step, and it would satisfy the ones like you who require the aid and can’t perform without it. It’s a win win for everyone, shouldn’t matter to ya
Why would it be dead and why would it be toxic? A server may not be the best answer but let’s look at our actual servers. 90% of us use addons, if your new to the game or aren’t plugged in enough to know you need an addon or that they even exist, you get grouped with people, possible people like you. Who have all the assistance added in, how are they to know what’s right or wrong or whether or not their rotation is good since they can’t see charts?
They can’t possibly know, especially if the content is new or unfamiliar, which would likely lead to people calling them trash or vote kicking them before they ever get a chance to learn. They would just stop doing group content and have a bad impression of the game. The servers do that now and people probably have no idea.
That’s a bad faith argument, sure it’s my choice but is it all but forced onto the player base if you wanna do anything above heroic.
I got a buddy who I play with who ain’t the best but he has fun playing. He uses his interrupts and crowd controls like a self respecting player would, but he don’t know the meaning of the word rotation. Doesn’t read guides for talents, if it’s the first time doing a raid or dungeon, he’ll probably die because he don’t know any better. Now the second time around he’ll figure it out but that’s the process of knowledge. He enjoys the game in a way that I never can, it’s almost pure
Edit: I’m not giving him enough credit, he knows “his” rotation but he’s not reading no guides, nor is he usually in last on the dps charts, although sometimes. He’s playing it for fun, which is the point of the game.
If you’re at heroic or above you have no excuse for not knowing the layout or the fights. I always go in blind without knowing the above at normal difficulty, because to me that’s part of the adventure. Anything beyond that and you’re just a drag on the others if you don’t know the plan.
