Haunt in PVP

Just a question as I"m new to pvp. Why is Haunt not a favorable spell for affliction in pvp?

Your goal as Affliction is to wither the whole team to stress the Healer and force CDs.
Haunt is a priority target spell.

Also it’s hard cast and would lock you out of Shadow.
And you dont really benefit from the reset mechanic like you do in PVE, because once someone dies you’ve basically already won.

To take it you’d have to give up something like insta cast MR’s or Soul Rot amping your Haste & Crit.

It could probably work in 2s. Afflics single target damage can be surprisingly scary

it amplifies all of your dots by 10 percent 30, I think if traited works okay with a malefic rapture. to further increase dot damage.

what are you even talking about. none of what you said is accurate. Your goal as affliction is to be a punching bag for melee so they can get free wins.

Seriously though i dont think the intention is to wither your team down, at least not in this meta. Our dots dont do any damage without constantly hard casting drains and reapplying UA, and those are dispelled without consequence extremely often. In addition to that Blizz decided to make Soul Rot a shadow spell now so literally everything we need to actually do damage comes from a hard cast, and from shadow. Precog does not help much when you take tons of damage trying to a juke a warrior that will not interrupt until 99.9% of the cast is completed.

I think if he wants to play haunt he can try to make it work. This game shouldnt be cookie cutter required builds, it should offer diverse gameplay based on your playstyle and spells chosen. Also there was a time last season where haunt got buffed and everyone used it, so its viable but the issue is affliction pretty much requires certain spells and with other spells getting reworked there are no talent points left for haunt or you will lose out on something important such as the soul rot path which we are forced into because of the tier set.

In my opinion the game would be alot more fun if there were no tier abilities in arena or pvp. I think alot of times certain classes get treated way better on these tier sets and is very biased and i just want to go back to regular fighting with regular gear.

All this to say maybe we could have more flexibility with our talents if tier wasnt a factor

Would be nice if they brought back PVP set bonuses to provide alternatives for when the PVE bonuses aren’t favorable to your preferred playstyle.

Haunt is another long cast time as is UA and you want your DOTS out fast and shadow bolt or drain. Its damage isnt that great as Raidbots doesnt give it dmg past 0.8% on everything I have tried

The real reason it isn’t picked is that if it’s dispelled it also removes the buff to dot damage for both itself and the overall dot powerup, making it far less consistent than other options.

Not to mention everything else that was said about it above.
