Hate the META, whats your best PUG spec?

For pugging only, what specs seem to be your Heroes. What specs do you always love to see and can give you all the utility love?

:dracthyr_hehe_animated: No firemages and boomkins here with their dang ramp up time. Get Outta here!

:dracthyr_uwahh_animated: Shadow priests? Not a chance with shadow crash. all dead by the time it lands.

:dracthyr_nervous_animated:That hunter? Hes going in. do you Bubble and run? Vanish?

I’m a tank 90% of the time.

Healer: Resto Shaman with
Incap totem.

DPS: Paladin/Mage/Warlock/Hunter

When I do play my DPS which is a hunter I like other DPS/Tank/healer with off healing cause it’s squishy. I actually had a super clean +10 Ruby with a BM/MM/Ret/Prot/MW combo pretty sure we +2’d it.

Tanktown or bust, any of them will be good enough for almost everything.

i mostly tank and yes it is on this VDH (which, fwiw, I have been playing since SL pretty regularly)

but I think the best pug tank is paladin. I think the best pug healer is shaman.

I like off meta dps: warriors usually slap and interrupt a LOT. i like afflocks when I can find them. they are sturdy, have healthstones and soulstones. i like hunters too. misdirect, traps, great aoe dps (a little squishy but not usually a problem in the mid keys I run)

I agree with shammy stuns, and I’m also a fan of anyone who boops/kicks/stops mobs.

But the real hero’s are anyone who’s pleasant or friendly.

I’ve been seeing a few people say they like resto shammy for pugs… why is that generally? Their stuns, kicks, speed boosts, lust, back up tank, and chain heal?

I like to invite Ret paladins because they’re naturally durable and straight forward to play. They’re the best spot healer in the game, and have good utility in general.

I don’t typically invite Warlocks because they have to play a little greedy. Demo especially. They’re kind of just BFA status for me, 90% of the time you wish you didn’t invite them. Don’t get me wrong either, I do love Warlock, just not playing with them I guess.

Devastation evokers have typically gone really well for me this season.

Shaman are usually pretty good.

Ret paladin is pretty meta adjacent but doesn’t require any specific key level or strategy to work. Same with frost mage.

I have a havoc DH friend I like playing with. He does roughly the damage of a mage but less prio and a lot squishier.

I like having dps warriors.

I don’t play one so i don’t know the ins and outs, but they seem to pump damage every single pull. Not giga damage one pull then tank damage the next pull.

And in most pugs there aren’t really giant mega pulls anyways except maybe all the trash before the tree boss in AA.

They also synergize well with monks both bringing a physical damage buff.

I’m doing Holy Pally currently for the challenge. Definitely been a pain even in the lower levels. Really makes me miss Mistweaver with it’s practically always available to save the day instant cast shield.

Meanwhile Lay on Hands is over here with a 900 year cooldown. GG’s usable twice a run.

As a healer I love playing with high damage dealers, so warlocks and DH are always fun. BM hunters and Ret Pally are a close second. Anyone I can PI and watch the numbers go WAY up.

Ret paladin. 2 rets and a bm hunter are the non-meta dream team.

Are you saying Fire and Shadow aren’t meta? Because both are pretty meta right now

Play Arcane, it cranks.

i like rets. they usually do very good damage and have at least adequate presence of mind to use their utility

i like my healers in pugs to have kicks. i know priests dont have a choice, but if its a caster heavy comp i’d want the rdruid to have skull bash

im not crazy about aug evoker. ive played with too many terrible ones. get why people want them but in +15 pugs we’re better served by a dev (or non-lizard) in most situations i think

They’re nice and meta, but not always as good in pug groups. They strive off longer pulls where mobs can stay alive and benefit from their ramp up. The more coordinated you are, the better they will do. most mages in low key level pug groups suck something awful.

Also, its a joke lol. let the pug-champs have some fun. Its a completely different beast between a low pug key and a meta/pushing key.

Im saying they need to get outta this thread - being all meta all the time. They just think they’re better than everyone! Survival isnt dead! I’m not salty your salty!

In all seriousness I just wanted to see everyone’s favorite little Pug-Champs. :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Again thanks for confirming you don’t know what you’re talking about.

In order to be a joke it needs to be funny.

You weren’t funny.

Nah he’s right. Fire mages running ignite build and shadow priests who aren’t very proactive with their positioning and vampiric touch casts are going to get smoked by more up front burst specs like MM hunter and ret in lower keys.

Flame patch fire can be ok but not on sanguine and not when tanks are going to drag mobs out of your flame patches.

Think Havoc dh’s have consistently been strong in m+, and are consistently a very strong spec in solo shuffle arena as well.

You can’t hate the meta and play a havoc dh though
