Based on the actions taken by players ingame and out, including but not limited to cheating, botting, griefing, rmt, boosting, m+ griefers, and the overall degradation of the integrity and skill level of players from week 4TWW, DF last weeks to current TWW…
Has WoW actually (re)gained the title of worst community in a mmorpg?
Throne and Liberty is definitely up there with literally stealing from eachother and their pvp being pure griefing.
Tarisland would be competing for the title if the big pro gaming teams (Solid, Liquid, etc)hadn’t been caught cheating there using Lumen.
Tbh it looks like something happened that just turned WoW retail into a negative force that degrades its players and their behavior.
It could be that the good players, and well behaved ones have moved on, such as with many guilds simply losing 90% of their players from TWW to now.
Maybe its the lack of new content, or the lack of a decent reason to play any older content. Maybe its the new games coming out, and people trying them then liking them more.
Could be all the cheating in m+ and raid world firsts this time around just made people stop playing competitive WoW again.
Team Echo caught cheating on RwF in TWW and DF iirc.
In terms of all the things combined, more than 50% would be what most people consider “bad” or “toxic”.
Considering im ranked like 50k in the world and I do not consider myself a “great” or “pro” player and haven’t even touched mythic raids because guild died before even trying once, I would say closer to 99% than 50%. Somewhere around 90%?
Well that’s a claim. Others say they never cheated during the race, it was during a testing period. Still others question how it could be cheating when there are no actual rules for RWF.
you just see the worst people being mentioned in social media and the news because people love drama.
drama headlines gets more clicks and views then say an article about that guy that got an ingame memorial.
last time blizz showed their player numbers it was like what 2 to 4 mil on the low end?
we only see like a couple thousand to hundred thousand people ever on forums and reddit voting and commenting.
that minority does not represent the majority even if they are the loudest and most annoying.
tl : dr = stop trying to paint an entire community with the same brush just because theres some loud idiots in it.
I can’t think of many other communities with this level of widespread brainrot, but there’s a lot of things in WoW’s gameplay loop that just seem perfect for stressing people out and adding fuel to the fire. It doesn’t help that the social media surrounding WoW isn’t all that great either, especially if you look at content creators and commentators for WoW.
People will tell you that it’s great and leagues better than WoW’s. I’d say they’re a lot more welcoming of newcomers and all, but the community meme of “Great community btw” exists for a reason; there’s DEFINITELY toxicity in the community - it’s a game on the internet after all.
Still, if you’re a casual player who just wants to dip their feet into some of the content, the playerbase is a lot more tolerant, and I tend to send more of my socially minded friends that way if they’re looking for an MMO.
SWTORs community being bad doesn’t surprise me sadly. Every person I ever met who played SWTOR who found out I played WoW ALWAYS had to tell me how their game was the ‘better game’ and that it was going to dethrone WoW as the best MMO. Literally every single one of them. That already says a lot to me about the community, rofl.
I feel they’re VERY similar in nature. Both stem from scenarios where players are put into a cooperative + competitive situation where there’s a skill curve involved, and both communities have a group expectation of you understanding metas and community strategies, even though it could be your first blush with the game.
Getting screamed at in raid or in M+ feels very similar to being screamed at for pushing the wrong lane.
