Has the augmentation experiment run its course?

Is seems to me this is just one of those specs Blizzard just don’t know what to do with. It’s either OP or kind of garbage. It doesn’t have that much of a flavor difference between Dev. Has this experiment run its course and is it time to take this into a different direction?

I know that Blizzard is stubborn and feels like they need to make their idea work, but I get the feeling that no one is buying what they are trying to sell with this specc. Sure when it first came out the God Comp was a thing, but since they decided to pile drive the spec tehy can’t seem to figure out it’s identity anymore.

So here me out, how about we take this from a caster spec to the first ever mail armor tank? It fits naratively as being the Black Dragonflight spec while keeping the identity as the ‘support’ tank specc. A lot of the spells are already there, just tweak them a bit for melee range.

This works because this can also be the only tank spec that comes with it’s own built in lust. That would be so nice to be in a group where that’s the case. To often I find myself in M+ and no one communicates and the tank assumes that the first pull will be lust, and gets pissy because no one reads their mind. Now if the tank HAD lust they could fulfill the plan and no need to make assumptions.

They could fulfill the fantacy of having the support powers, but also tanking making them different.

Legion remix is the perfect time to implement this, since they need to build out an entire artifact for evokers anyway, it would be the perfect place to lay the groundwork for it. Give them a set of fist weapons that go over their unarmed animations.

The tank is the best possible support there is. The healer can maybe heal but not when the DPS get one shot from how weak they are, the tank makes the entire run possible by taking the big hits, and also doing all the homework for the rest of the group to cheat off of before class. So yes I agree with making Aug a tank, which would also make it an even better support!

It’s not unheard of to do a 180 on a class, Survival Hunter is proof of that.

I was messing around on with aug lately and find myself saying, “This is Dev but different colored sprinkles.” Since Aug doesn’t effect tanks anymore, you could do the same thing but as a more valued member of the group.

Could even be the pilot for giving tanks more utility in the group outside of just being the meatshield DPS. I’ve seen other suggestions for that.

Nothing about Aug, nor the evoker default kit, in any way lends towards tanking. They are a full spellcaster with 2 ranged dps and 1 healer spec.

My main problem with Aug is that it made 60% of the M+ group not DPS, there are a lot of people who like to pew pew, much more than 40% of players I would say. I loved the disc rework because it was finally a “healer” that could just atone people up and pew pew. Maybe Aug could be a tank that just pew pew or is basically a DPS with like 40m hp, and self healing 10% of their damage, then I might like tanking! I don’t even mind if it’s not a good tank, I’d play it just because groups need tanks and I like to pew pew.

How you can you say that when the theme is the Black Dragonflight the keepers of the earth. They have abilities that increase versatility and even black dragonscales that are purely a defensive spells.

to be so narrow minded to say ‘it can only be a caster’ make it sound like it can’t be changed, the changes would actually be rather minimal. For a time we thought Survival hunters could only be ranged is the same way of thinking. Far form an impossibility.

If any of the current mail classes are getting a tank spec it’ll be shaman.

This idea is old and dead, stop beating it.

Aug is also doing ok now after their buffs, but dev is performing amazingly so dps evokers are flocking to that one.

Some people play Aug in PvP and it does quite well, atleast in rated battleground blitz.

My thought process is, why should tanks just be the meatshield dps when they can provide other benefits to the group to ensure survival? Providing buffs that increase the survivability of the group that isn’t healing. Damage reductions or actual damage preventions, like warrior intercept used to be.

Prot paladins have blessing of sacrifice and blessing of spellwarding

Blood DKs have anti-magic zone

I mean all I want to play is DPS really but I just want the queues to be lower so you can do whatever you want with aug that will make other people tank M+ on it, good by me :+1:

Not much would have to change there, just more survivability and have to be in melee rather than mid range at a damage reduction to balance.

Not much would have to change? You’re talking about going from a ranged dps spec to a tank.

How would breathe of eons work?

Or would the signature move of flying across the battlefield just be scrapped?

It’s the devs fault

They are purposefully gatekeeping the spec and not allowing it to shine.

Maybe it could be a breath of eons 360 for the tank spec, a 2 min cd where you taunt and fire death everyone around your character, within 15y radius

So the evoker twirls around breathing fire? Or it shoots fire out both ends?

Exactly how it already does. Tanks can move y’know.

There’s no mechanical obstacle to aug becoming a tank, but let it be a dps and call it a day. Hell, make it a melee-caster like enhancement that uses int. Whatever.

I’m still waiting for ALL healers to be more support-like if they are never going to be allowed to do any damage.

Yep they just need to roll whatever support concepts they have into healers and tanks and call it a day on that experiment. Adding a fourth role to WoW is a fool’s errand and entirely pointless.

Just let aug be a dps spec. People that think dev and aug can’t both just be dps specs are apparently unaware of the multiple classes that have three dps only specs.
