Has Blizzard ever commented on why they don't schedule maintenance for other hours, like 2am-10am or something?

Seems they could pick better hours other than mid-day.
Obviously people would still complain but surly to a lesser extent.

Most people have jobs to go to mid-day. You know, like the employees doing this maintenance.

If they did it overnight you’d have more people complaining that at night is the only time they can play because they work 9-5 and wtf Blizz accommodate ME

It’s a worldwide game so though it’s mid-day in North America, it’s evening in Europe and midnight in Asia. Technically, for some regions it is middle of the night. Alot of people also work during the day so it’s not something that affects majority of the player base if you are talking about North America alone.

Also, I imagine it has to do with the fact that they probably need a team working during maintenance and having people be on point and work 2am-10am is not as ideal for employees as working regular hours.

Wait, you mean a CA based company does things around normal operating hours in the pacific time zone? My mind, it is blown.

Because 2AM PST is not 2AM for the rest of the world which makes it pointless to point out a specific window of time that you feel it should happen in.

OK but neither is 6am pst to 1pm pst

It’s mid day for you.

It’s very early morning for the people who reset and maintain the servers.

How about we thank the tech guys and gals and get them some coffee, they deserve it! :coffee:

I do agree that they should do their maintenance at like 3am PST to 10am PST.

Sure, during the day has less people but 3am to 10am DEFINITELY has even less.

And keep in mind this region covers about 13 time zones split between NA and OCE

World-wide game. It’s ALWAYS (insert your time period here) somewhere. In a game with as wide a scope as WoW has there is no convenient time. Someone’s available gaming period is ALWAYS going to get trampled on.

They could make it so we don’t notice it at all by patching offline servers and then sharding us into them.

But that would require more of Bobby’s money. And why spend it when they already have our money. And they have us well trained to expect this service with people happily defending it.

Not like they’re amazon or facebook that only make money on up time while running massively more complicated systems with deep machine learning creating avatars of all their users trying to guess what we’ll click on and show it to us.

They did a long time ago. According to their undisclosed stats, this is one of the least busiest times in total number of players. I am sure not having to pay overtime plays into as well.

Except ya know, EU and Asia do their downtimes at different times than NA/Oceanic.

You can see now that EU/Asia is up and running and NA/Oceanic is down.

So if EU can do their downtime at 3am EU time…why cant NA do their downtime at 3am NA?

The time they set for maintenance could just coincide with their current work hours, so while maintenance is going on they could be working on other things at the same time. If any problems arise, they’re already “at work” to handle the problem.

This si true, but many, dare I say most, MMO’s out there do their downtimes to coincide with the least amount of players.

I used to go into work at 2am to unload trucks at Target…your telling me System admins cant go in at 3am to do a patch?

Blizzard could have their engineers go in at 3am and do the patch in the middle of the night, they just choose not to. And that’s fine its their game…doesnt make it any less annoying though

You couldn’t look through the current open, active posts? You had to go and create yet another one?

Why are there droves and droves and multitudes of people who all, in their infinite wisdom, think they have a “better” schedule for maintenance?

The people who run the place know the best. They’re constantly trying to do it as efficiently as they can, and with the least amount of displaced players.

Line all you folks up from end-to-end, and you’d have one “better” maintenance suggestion for every hour of every day of the week. Doubles and triples on each hour, actually, because there’s only 168 hours in a week … and there have been way, way more than 168 threads on better maintenance times.

Oh, the irony.
