If so, how would you describe that character? Are they corrupted, servants of the legion, or do they work towards their own goals?
The thing to keep in mind is that ‘villain’ can often be a matter of perspective and based on the situation, and is not necessarily tied to any particular faction.
An eredar lord of the Burning Legion and an abusive human father might both be the villains in their own stories, even though one is the epitome of evil whereas the other is a light worshiping tax payer in Stormwind.
If we think of villains in that they are people who lack morals, disregard for the pain or lives of others, or evil actions; then I think all Demon Hunters would have a strong proclivity towards villainy.
The only thing preventing a Demon Hunter from being considered a full-on villain is the fact that they have been working to save the very multiverse from annihilation.
Without this justification, it would be difficult to argue for their dark methods. Not to mention that they are host to fel powers and malicious demons, which gives them a significant proclivity at best towards sadism, cruelty and other vile traits.
In short, if you removed their cause(I.E. saving the multiverse), then I think a lot of the current demon hunters would fall into the villain category right now.
I’ve got a DH side character who is meant to be seen as a villain, though she is much more appropriately described as an antihero. She became a full demon some time after the assault on Black Temple but her motives and goals still worked against the Legion.
She is the sister of my main DH character and is perpetually hunted by her. Ironically their goals have always been more or less the same, albeit from differing perspectives; however, because the main never learned the circumstances of her sister’s transformation, she can only see her as akin to the Felsouls and other traitors to the Illidari.
I stick to DK for my villains, since a DH spends most of it’s life sacrificing everything. Even their own minds. Its more of an antihero class than anything. Having said that, one could choose to be the manipulative evil: inspect the lessers for weaknesses and exploit every single one. At least Demon Form could add to the rp.
Thank you for asking this question. I’ve just created a villain type of character and I, too, am looking for ideas on how to do this.
I suppose the general theme of most evil characters is that they are emotionless and cold? Selfish, working towards their own goals. Unless they are mind-controlled, and serving the legion. So I imagine it could go either way.
Looking at Palatina’s post and guild name… It would be hilarious if there was an evil DK with that guild name. That might head into the “insane Joker” type of villain, then.
Evil characters can have quite a lot of emotions! They can even be doing evil things for good reasons, such as for someone else they care for deeply. What makes them evil is that they’re choosing to do these evil things, for whatever reason.
Antiheroes, on the other hand, do good things… they just lack heroic traits.
