DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO SUGGEST THE QUERY IS A FACT. THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN INQUIRY OF THE EXPERIENCE OF OTHERS.
I’ve done BFD a few times now. The first couple times, there were a lot of mail-wearers. The first couple times, a lot of mail dropped. As there have been less people wearing mail in the raid group, there has been much less mail gear dropping.
The past two runs, there were two mail-wearers - a warrior and myself. No mail gear at all dropped. In fact, almost no leather melee gear dropped in the second to most recent run; the heaviest distribution has been either leather or cloth spell power gear. Comparatively, two prior runs, with 3 or 4 mail wearers, at least four bosses each night dropped a mail piece.
I know that I’d create a bias by looking out for mail pieces to upgrade. Fully aware of that. Thing is, I have most of the gear I’m looking for in BFD; I’m only looking for the legs off Savaress and (hoping for) the epic sword off Aku’mai. If I was trying to get mail gear off every boss, I’d chalk it up to that, but I’m not. It also feels strange that there’s a lot more spell damage gear dropping than healing gear dropping - both of these are things I wouldn’t be rolling on. (Before anyone says “lulz l2heal retnoob”: Would you really want a holy pally without Illumination and with no spell crit in your group?
)
I don’t think there’s any actual personalization of loot going on here; I’m guessing it’s just coincidence. That having been said, I didn’t know there was a blanket 25% nerf on player damage in WSG until it was brought to my attention. So, I’m just here to ask what other players have experienced, loot-wise, in BFD, if the loot feels(emphasis on “feels,” not “is”) seem sort of tailored to the group comp, or if it has felt just as random as Classic loot has always been.
I feel loot has trolled one of my raid comps and we got mail drops every boss in the run for one warrior in the entire raid.

My first BFD raid ever we had no mail wearers in the group and ended up DEing 4 pieces of mail.
Yeah, my name is Hamstar, I have a boar pet and I keep getting things “of the boar”. Coincidence or psychic phenomenon, you decide.

Luckily it is a 10 man so you can bring every class, no loot wasted!
This is happening to our group.
false.
done a few runs where loot dropped that no one in the raid can even use.
The loot is just weird in general there. I’ve seen the epics drop but a few of the other items have never dropped.
Gotten mail when there’s zero mail users in raid. We got the epic sword when nobody in the raid could even equip it besides a hunter.
Our brains are designed to recognize patterns and it sticks in our brains. If you run the raid enough times, I bet many of those runs you wouldn’t notice anything at all. It’s also possible that there are more drops of a certain amour type in the raid than others.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. While I’m not the hugest fan of pure RNG, I’m glad to see there’s not a consensus amongst others feeling drops felt tailored to group composition, and I’m far less a fan of impactful changes being implemented without telling the player base than I am much of anything else.
Given how many leather users we have in our group, I can confirm there is absolutely no correlation to composition and the drops.
I noticed there are always rogues winning my
Honestly, I don’t see why everyone hates personal loot, you can still trade it between group members and instead of having to click the roll button the game just does it for you on boss loot.

to me was the best thing blizz added to the game , no loot dramas at all (for a mmorpg thats HUGE )
u even invited friendly (insert your class gear here) in order to share gear , mages locks and priest singing kumbaya to the dungeon…instead of omg this guy is gonna “steal” all my loot
I’ve seen the same mail shoulders drop 3 times in a row for our only mail user.
I feel like it seems to be a lot of the same thing per run. Not necessarily tied to raid comp.
For example in the last 4 runs I have seen 2 worthwhile cloth pieces and like 10+ leather/mail each.
Obviously not a representative sample, but I found that interesting.
