Title. Not just Cata+ people who haven’t seen the old world, not just people coming back after a decade, but a surprisingly large number of honest to god new players have been showing up on my server.
While definitely awesome, I have to say I can’t really figure out why. Coming in blind, I wouldn’t expect someone new to have a preference for classic vs modern. Why would classic bring in so many new players?

I have been noticing this quite a bit on my realm too and we have had a number of new players to WoW join our guild recently. I’m loving it. Something exciting about seeing a new person join your guild when they tell you they are new to WoW or you come across the person out in the world or in chat.
It could be that there is a definite draw for people to see where the game began. I know that anytime a progressive server opened on EQ or EQ2, I was very interested in checking it out. As far as EQ goes, I never really played it before and I thought it would be very cool to see this game I had heard so much about and see how it was in the beginning.
With EQ2, I had played the game years ago before many changes and wanted to play the old version I remembered.
Classic hasn’t brought in any new players! At all!

maybe a lot of them learned about the game late and were hesitant to play because they’d be starting from scratch on established realms…
the appeal of a total reset definitely would be a reason to start playing, so you dont feel like your always playing catchup. youre experiencing the game as it was meant to be from launch
edit: when does the avatar update im 35 lol

WoW is legendary even if not in its current form.
It makes sense that people who missed the bus the first time may try to ride it now that it’s come back
Around without the intimidation of a 15 year old game.
I’m seeing people who knows nothing about Classic or Retail, but there they are playing Classic.

I’m 100% new to WOW and I started playing classic. I picked classic over the regular version because I figure it would be easier to learn the game at its earlier stage. Instead of just jumping in blind on a game that’s 10+ years old with all kinds of stuff going on.

Fresh new players to the World of Warcraft “Classic” in my eyes makes sense. Here in NYC, there are advertisements in the subways advertising Classic WoW.

I have been noticing this too. i think its probably do to all the streamers/youtubers and other media attention its getting. Frankly I would rather they start here with the real game rather then the money grubbing fake one.

It’s a lot harder in classic, and you chose the hardest class to level lol. But you made a great choice and won’t regret it.

Yeah umm… It’s been a hell of a ride so far. But I’m really liking the game. I missed the ride first go a round… But glad I got another chance to see what I missed out on.

Ive seen streamers that are big names who have never touched wow playing it. Would not be surprised if a large number of their fan based tried it due to it being the hot game currently.

Yeah classic is a more complete mmorpg especially for someone new to the game itself. The main version of the game has had so many expansions where blizzard took out content and added new stuff that you see gear with stats on it that no longer exists, or entire quest zones that give you an item like artifact weapons and then all of a sudden they are worthless. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle of 3 different games put together to form one incomplete game because they brought in different developers at different points who all had their own ‘‘good idea fairy’’ plans, especially Holinka, who was/is widely hated by many and came over after ruining diablo.
With all of that plus tokens and other online store items, the main version of the game morphed into a hot mess, hell, you could even bypass 90 percent of the game by paying like 20 bucks and your character would be auto leveled to like within 10 levels of max level, and you could do this as many times as you wanted. Idk what they were thinking over time, but it was absolutely stupid.
Hope you enjoy classic, because this is the first time in years I have consistently logged into the game every day even for an hour, and enjoyed it.

I am also surprised at the number of first time players.
They hear classic is good, lots of hype, WoW from when it was good. No one new wants to play modern WoW. All they hear is bad stuff.

I played Legion to 110 (maybe a month of playing, two at most). That was my entire experience with WoW prior to classic. Coming in knowing nothing about vanilla, and seeing how drastically different things are, has been extremely refreshing from the constant onslaught of dailies and loot pinatas in retail. I can definitely see why people would be interested in playing classic over retails, or perhaps giving retail a quick go and deciding they want something simpler. The sheer driving power behind the existence of vanilla private servers certainly helps push people into investigating classic, at least to a degree. Overall I think it’s great to have new people, and I’ve met plenty in-game as well.

I have met about a dozen completely new players (Im not that social so that’s a lot).
Of those I spoke to it reasons varied from ‘parents played’, ‘prefer to see it from the beginning’, ‘start at same level as everyone else’ and ‘bored with other games’.
