Has anyone been banned using that afk macro?

its highly abusive in the right context. has anyone got in trouble for it?

If Bot trains running in circles, killing everything as Boomkins haven’t been banned then you’ll be okay saying you’re not afk.

Not that I know of, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a ban won’t happen in the future.

The only “afk macro” macro that I know of was the one I made a few expansions ago that sent an emote. I used it in Battlegrounds when I was farming honor and was frustrated at newbs, so I called it the “newb kicker” as anyone who typed “/afk” in an instanced Battleground immediately got kicked and a thirty minute Deserter debuff. I got plenty of players out of Battlegrounds with that and it always made me laugh. I never got in trouble for using it, but I probably would today if I ever recreated it.

/e has reported you AFK (Away From Keyboard) and you will be removed from the group shortly. To remain in the instance, type “/afk”.

I have seen people write an emote like that for BGs and get in trouble for it… not major trouble, but small suspensions. I would not recommend doing it these days.

People have been doing that as long as I can remember and it still gets a few people these days. You’d probably be fine.

Yeah, if he didn’t actively use it and deleted it right away or whatever then he should be fine.

Has anyone been banned for cheating? Just asking for a friend because I really hope Blizz is totally doing something about it… Of course I’d like to know what and how this macro is and works! Please share so I can avoid it!

macros and hacking are two different things.

heres the video about the macro. its been in game for years.

Dont risk it.

People have been doing this since the first BGs rolled out.

In almost 20 years of this trash game, I’ve yet to hear of anyone get suspended and/or banned for it.

I still use it to this day. Primarily because, on the off-chance I do get banned for using it, I’ll finally be able to stop playing this trash game.

Still very funny

You and people like you are the reason I have never stepped foot in battlegrounds other than Comp Stomp. My first time trying them was for the mounts that were released as part of the Anniversary event. I had never been in one before and someone used that on me. I had no idea, I thought it was a PvP thing.

The fact that you got enjoyment out of ruining other people’s play for no reason is horrible.

What AFK macro?

You have been reported AFK, type /AFK to clear this warning.

It’s a video game. It’s really not that serious.

Did you also fall for people telling you to delete system32?

or just… log out and don’t log back in?

After watching some of that video it seems doubtful you would get banned or suspended. Everything described is using mechanics that have been part of WoW for a long time.

Broadly speaking, addons and macros can’t do anything to the game that Blizzard hasn’t directly permitted. In this case I don’t think you even need an “anti-afk” macro, since you can’t get logged out of the game while in combat.

Pet classes have also been killing monsters AFK since Vanilla. Hunters AFK farmed Black Dragonscales so much that at one point Blizzard gave pets a separate tag so players couldn’t loot mobs unless they helped their pet kill it.

They eventually reverted the change, but replaced the old pet stance “aggressive” with our current “assist”. Aggressive stance would make your pet automatically attack anything nearby. The method in the video uses “defensive” stance, which means the player has to get hit first before the pet can attack.

Blizzard doesn’t like players AFK leveling (they changed Cobalt farming as proof) but they also didn’t completely remove Cobalt farming and said it would remain as an option but just not the best option.

See, you say that, but these forums are full of people who probably don’t agree.

Love,
Kaag
