For those of you who were on during the HC server launches a few months back, how bad was the starting zones? I remember when Season of Mastery launched, the starting zone was so crowded it took almost 3 hours to finish the starter zone. Every mob was instantly tagged within half a second of spawning, even with the supposed layering system. Just curious if it had been improved by Hardcore server launch. or if it was still a ****show.
Im hopping they heavily layer on launch
official HC wasnt SSF, so a lot of the tagging issues are solved by just grouping until you leave the chokepoint
it may not be the maximum xp but it will get you completed quests and quicker out the gates to Durotar or the Barrens or wherever
They were crowded, but nothing like the launch of Classic.
I’m guessing that lvls 1-6 took an extra 10 minutes compared to an empty zone.
Overall, it was verysmooth.
On Defias Pillager, it took probably 45 minutes to get from Northshire to Goldshire. There were some lag issues that contributed to that. Once I got past the Goldtooth quest, it was very busy but not problematic.
Well HC was busy as you’d expect at launch, but it was nothing like the “busy” I saw on a Fresh server just before WOTLK classic. That was such an absolute mess even grouped.
Then you factor in HC was maybe not as populated due to the way it works… so I’d imagine at least for a while SOD starter zones will be bad… and it won’t matter when you play or what day. Simply because when anything different happens in recent history it seems like no one has a job or school or family etc
There was 10+ layers on launch of HC so I’m guessing each layer was as full as Classic/TBC/Wrath launch.
From what I can remember, HC had the least lag out of all 3 and was very smooth and even with people camping every single mob spawn it was still relatively quick to get quests done.
They did mention they increased the amount of people they can fit on a server so I guess it depends on what that means exactly.
It could just be generally but it could also mean more people supported per layer as well so we could log into SoD with more people around than every other launch.
In my experience they were pretty packed. That’s why I always do some practice runs before launch so I know exactly the route to get ahead of everyone. There’s less competition for mobs if you’re on a quest in Dolanaar for example instead of trying to tag spiders in the shadowglen cave.
Or, you know, timezones and the ability to manage your life.
