Hardcore Mode

Lots of people have made posts and comments about after a certain point, content will end. Although to counter this “Classic+” has been suggested, and just making TBC servers, but some people still just want Classic.

A long, long time ago, on the forums in 2005, people were making suggestions of a “hardcore” server, or “ironman” by today’s lexicon. A server where if you die, your character is dead forever.

Something like this can get away with the “no changes” crowd, as it’s a specific server, and no gameplay mechanics are removed, save for Linken’s boomerang quest.

This will add a whole new element of difficulty and tension and playability to the game, to the point where we might never see a guild down Ragnaros for a long, long time, and we definately won’t see one down Nefarion due to Vaelstrasz.

I always felt that blizzard should have made a server like this, and Classic is the perfect way to test it.

Also, “true pvp” servers where anyone can be attacked within contested zones outside of instances.

Torque it up!

The four people actually interested in ironman style play should form a guild and just go for it. You don’t need a server for it.

Like the four people who actually want classic, right?

I doubt you could get 10 guild sigs without paying for them.

What would be the point? You’re definitely eventually going to die and it almost certainly won’t be due to lag.

Do you think anybody would find it enjoyable to take half a year to get to level 50, then eventually luck out and make it to 60, only to have to delete your character because it can’t raid?

A whole server isn’t needed. Just delete your char at the graveyard.

I don’t know about permadeth at least for me but I think a server with increased mob damage would be cool like in a dungeon moor than 3 would be a wipe but just my opinion

I think any one who claims on the forums they’re doing this would be marked as KOS by everyone on their server.

Just quest naked.

I do lol / and tank

I’d love to see hardcore servers for Classic, TBC, or Wrath… mostly because I’d just want to see how far people got.

HOWEVER

You’d have to remove (or change) a bunch of “certain death” mechanics like Vael’s abilities and quests like Dark Iron Legacy that require you to be dead.

Maybe you’d have to farm some kind of potion to visit the spirit-world without actually dying.

Maybe Vael’s abilities just reduce your HP and MP to 5% and then turn you to stone for the rest of the fight.

Logic.

WTH is that doing here?

You finally get to 60 after 5 years and there is nobody else to play with. Would not be a single warrior above level 30 on the whole server.

Given that there are literally quests that require death to obtain/complete…I don’t see this as an option.

It would just be a server full of solo players. You think a 50+ tank is going to trust some healer to keep him alive without fail through end-game instances?

Those quests are optional, but any hardcore server really should change them to not require death.

Linken’s quest is totally skippable, but not being able to get the Shadowforge Key would be obnoxious.

More than just quests too. Boss mechanics are sometime simply unavoidable death for the target. Think Vael in BWL.

Yea I just made a comment about that.

You don’t have to change those things, but you should.
