Hardcore Made Me Realize

I wouldn’t call you that.

I’d just call you a failure.

:person_shrugging:

Ha coming at me because I exposed you earlier for being exactly that when I told everyone your embarrassingly low item level in Wrath.

No you stupid mouth breather, you talked only about my ilvl because you refuse to talk about my multiple 99s in both phase 1 and 2, refuse to talk about my 95+ BPA, and refuse to recognize that was done in a guild as my guild only raided 10 man. You refuse to talk about my generic purple parses in 25 man which since week 4 or 5 of LKC, has only been done in gdkps. You only focus on ilvl because this character hasn’t been played since week 5 of Ulduar and think that ilvl carries weight above actual dps performance because you don’t even understand the weight and value of ilvl in LKC. Fun fact, it’s no where near as heavy as retail makes ilvl, but you wouldn’t know that because you’re too busy making up stories about everyone and yourself instead of learning the game you dedicated your life to.

You’re a failure because the only thing you do is lie then call others trolls for calling you out for lying.

Hell, you’re butthurt at me because I called you a nerd emoji. “I have leveled 2 rogues to 60. Fact.” Is still one of the most pathetic things I’ve read on these forums. That’s you. You said that.

Say one single lie I have ever said to you here. I’ll wait.

I already posted on one of my rogues that I have here.

Item level has always been in game, ALWAYS. There used to be an addon made for it and that addon came out with original Curse years ago. Then Blizzard added shown item level to the game in patch 3.2 of WoW. You cant get the highest item level with BoEs, you get the highest ilvl possible with BoPs which means you have to actually run the content. Item level came out very early in original Wrath and was a big part of the game for accepting people into groups. You very clearly did not play Wrath back then and you dont play it much right now cuz you know next to nothing about the game or how it works in the slightest.

And at least I play in the forum game modes that I post in. There is no evidence that you do. You’re out here talking about Wrath on HC threads. And as I said before, where Have I lied? I haven’t.

Both of you guys are totally off topic and it sucks for those of us that would rather discuss HC.

I have a level 50 druid on Defias Pillager. If I die I’m gone forever – the truest of HC experiences if you will – but so far the sweet release of death has eluded me. I feel like the ~120 hours I have put into the live HC servers gives me every right and reason to contribute to this forum.

But let me get this straight: if I play and have an informed perspective through which to criticize the game mode, I should quit and why am I even playing, but presumably if I didn’t play and criticized it I’d be dismissed for that reason as well? So just no criticisms? Because I’m afraid that’s a no-go from me.

Pretty sure he left in 2016, not 2006.

Not really, I was just curious, since it feels like you have a lot of negativity towards it in a lot of your posts. Besides, most of us don’t post on our HC characters from what I’ve seen here. (I would like the characters to have avatars that show instead of a W).
GL getting to cap, at 50 you’re getting close and it’d be so disappointing to lose the character. I’m currently 47 on my highest.

Most of my issues with HC are just things which are inherent to the base game and which the HC challenge exacerbates. Even more-so than the regular game, HC would benefit immensely from the Classic+ treatment. It would then benefit further from HC-specific alterations.

As someone who’s been playing ARPG HC for 20 years now, a long-form HC game is an incredibly fascinating idea, and Vanilla is even a surprisingly passable baseline for something that obviously was not designed with it in mind at all. Though, I do think the immense amount of experience we all have with it, and the wealth of information about every tiny detail of the game that exists for those rare few who are actually new, is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. It’s still only 10% the experience that it could be, however, and with the right changes could actually turn into a fairly (genuinely) popular sub-genre, almost akin to how MOBAs arose.

I feel like the enjoyment and adventure of the classic leveling experience and journey to 60 is something that would be hard if not impossible to recapture in expansions.

As early as TBC the leveling was starting to be made shorter as a focus was more on max level content, likely because as the population matures it becomes more and more top heavy.

The issue with this statement is the fact no one has a handle on what Classic+ is. I’ve seen so many ideas thrown out here and a lot are as different as night is to day. HC could be incorporated to most any game. The older games made you start over when your life ran out, and obviously later many added in second chances like save points etc.
I’m happy with this version of HC WoW Classic for the most part. It appeals to the majority it seems. Ideally for me, I’d make it more of a survival game but it’s easy to do that for myself within the current structure.

Well, gamers changed.

In classic, we are soldiers. Pawns.

Now everyone is a special snowflake and the savior of the world, over and over and over again.

Everyone wanted to feel OP, so no one groups. I’ve had more random quick groups since HC started than I have in retail since probably TBC (the first time).

People want purples so they feel special all the time.

Vanilla WoW was a journey. Now its not the same this time. I’m way better at it this time around. There is a lot more information at your finger tips. However HC has gotten pretty close to the original magic. Its back to be exciting to play.

The challenge is real. The consequences are real. My first real death (above lvl 20) happened because I forgot I couldn’t solo elites. On Retail…elites only take me slightly longer to kill the regular mobs.

Why is it that I’m barely realizing how all these “Hardcore” topics can be taken wildly out of context? The title alone!

The majority of those who play it sure. And that’s entirely fair to prefer it to anything that could possibly come after. I think a modified version of HC WoW could be literally 10x or more as popular, and have lasting power. That being said I’m not saying the current HC should go anywhere. More would want to use what we’re doing now as a baseline for said modified HC, which would be its own set of servers.

The players changed more than the game did. We’re seriously playing hardcore and people are clearing the entire game. Back in true vanilla, most of us were super bad, hence why everyone has the story of that one Ret Pally topping the damage meter.

The reason hardcore has brought a bit of this back is because you can’t just blitz all the content. If you try, you’ll end up back at level 1. The original game was kind of grindy and also extremely easy. But we also didn’t have a tier list of literally everything dictating exactly how to play.

If you use wayback machine and look up old discussions on thottbot, you see blizzard representatives chatting directly with players to quickly implement their feedback directly into the game.

From Katricia Chatty Blizzard Representative (2004-07-25):

The design team is in the process of polishing all of the level 1 - 20 zones. Many of the changes being implemented are a direct result of feedback from all of you who post here on the forums and from items suggested in the game.
To further this progress, the team needs your feedback on higher level zones so they can start looking at ways to make improvements where necessary. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting requests for this information and would appreciate any feedback that you can provide.
In this thread, please give your feedback on Stonetalon Mountains . What aspects of Stonetalon Mountains do you like? How can we improve the Stonetalon Mountains area? Please be specific and offer suggestions and examples on ways to improve this zone.
Thanks!

A great team with a vision, working directly with their users to quickly iterate, is why Azeroth is such a good and crisp experience.

Hey now. YOU LEAVE TRANSMOGS OUT OF THIS.

Transmogs are one of the biggest problems in retail. There’s no visual clarity on power, achievement, etc. In classic you see other characters and instantly know what they’ve done, how strong they are, etc. Its a major part of RPGs that was totally destroyed in retail to appeal to casual types.

For me, that’s because the “meta” doesn’t matter. The biggest problem with retail is how everyone just blindly follows a guide and does, for the most part, fine. In HC if you don’t know why the guide says to do something, you can easily end up dead.

Your individual knowledge and skills actually matter, not rerolling to the latest FOTM and following the rotation given on wowhead.
