Hardcore is great, but we need a way to track deaths

I’d consider this to be a huge issue for a small, but loyal and enthusiastic, group of players that are interested in exploring the game in a pretty novel and interesting way.

While experiencing the hardcore ruleset on Bloodsail Buccaneers we do not use the mailbox or the Auction House. We rely on drops from mobs and vendor purchases for our armor and weapons! We change professions as needed and spend time developing them to aid our progression. And, we do it all on ONE life without dying, ever.

The challenge is real, the fun is extreme, but it could be better! We absolutely hope that there’s a mechanism implemented to adequately track player deaths–please make this happen for us–even if it had to be turned on via a toggle upon character creation–it would be the capstone for our roleplaying hardcore gameplay environment.

IF developers are unwilling to do this for the community, then at least please allow GM’s to verify zero deaths for the people who spend weeks, if not longer, grinding to level 60 and want to verify their “blessed run!”

Thank you,
Bubax (level 16, Orc Hunter)

I would think an add-on could be made for this.

Yep, but those can be cheated if/when they’re turned off too.

What would be the point of cheating? There is no reward beyond self satisfaction and the short lived adulation from a small community of players.

Remember when hardcore mode meant perma-death?

You answered your own question there. People that can’t make it to the top will settle for faking it–sad, but true.

Everyone that has made it to 60 has had to submit a ticket to be verified that they have zero deaths.

It’s listed in the hardcore hall of fame website, so accountability isn’t an issue. If you somehow make it to 60 and die but mess with the footage, the ticket submitted to the gm will still verify that you did die.

Wouldn’t you just be cheating yourself? Is the point of hardcore mode to give yourself a challenge or to have something to brag about to other nerds?

can’t you use Warcraft Logs? I believe it will count combat between anyone.

You can use the timers to match up to your /played

So what happens if your internet goes out or the server crashes right when you do even a small pull? Things that are really beyond your control and not “fair”.

I have died several times to a long lag spike (>30 seconds).

I guess you could roll a hunter and only target low level mobs that still give you xp but that your pet could kill if you go offline.

you would be surprised about what people will cheat to win… People owned the game shark back in the day so they could win on single player games.

That’s how low people will go.

Its seen now days in Retail where people buy Gladiator, Rank 1 Gladiator, Grand Marshal & High Warlord, and “Mythic” clears on bosses, super rare mounts, and so on.

I love “Rated” stuff, but the above really takes the point away for real players.

You may think the attached video is not apparent to the situation here, but it is, watch the whole thing.

GM’s stopped verifying that about a month ago; wish we could still submit verification tickets, but no longer.
