Hardcore Holy Paladin viable?

2 questions, are they good healers in classic and will I have to walk around in cloth and leather most of the leveling experience for int and spirit?

There’s few good healing plate stuff. Holy paladins wore a lot of cloth, leather, and mail. They are the most mana efficient and they’re awesome. Starting out and while leveling, you could do mail and then plate with intellect on it.

Don’t most use ret with an healing gear offset for the early to mid dungeons?

Paladins are great healers. You don’t really have to spec holy to heal while leveling if you keep a set of healing gear in your bags. You can it’ll just be slower. The holy tree doesn’t give raw +healing after like 12 points in so you could grab that stuff and get Ret talents if you want to solo better.

If you level duo you could level as holy but it’s not necessary. The thing is, there are still good damage talents in the holy tree, like consecrate, increased strength, negating pushback with conc aura, SoR damage increase… then not far from those talents is the talent that increases how much your heals heal for. The holy tree for paladins is kind of BiS tbh.

I dont play Pally in Vanilla because I would gimp myself and NEVER wear any cloth/leather gear and most certainly NEVER a dress.

If you don’t want to wear cloth and leather, then don’t.

Some people get really hung up on armor type for whatever reason, but it might be worth asking yourself, as a healer, how much value are you getting out of armor. If it’s a lot, especially to the point where you would prioritize it over better stats, then you’ve got an interesting situation you find yourself in as a healer, imo.

priest over paladin don’t you think?

That’s silly, paladins have the armor skill to wear everything for a reason. You don’t have to wear the dress though, would never do that.

Thanks all for the tips. I think I’m going to roll a paly

Holy paladin is perfectly fine to level up though it’s probably the slowest spec/class to level, possibly one of the safest though. You will primarily want str/con gear and chain or plate based on level when soloing, and even most grouping, as most of the time you will level like you are ret.

Just keep random int gear for if you’re doing a dungeon to help your mana pool. Some advice though if you do level holy you might consider going Ret at least for seal of command and pursuit of justice, then holy, as holy talents provide little until you hit 60 where you start getting real gear.

paladins wear mail/plate the entire time leveling. Wearing dresses is just for raiding :expressionless:
and of course paladins will be good for HC. I’m specifically avoiding rolling a paladin actually, because I consider them to be TOO good.

Just wear mail/plate with intellect. Holy is the best all-around build because you can tank or heal easily (consecration, a must-have for tanking, is in the holy tree in classic).

Maxing out your bonus healing with cloth gear is for parsing in raids, not for actually playing your character.

you will wear cloth and leather and it will be okay.
