Hardcore Burnout

People have been playing HC on normal Classic realms, and now a bunch (including myself) are playing on the PTR. Do you think that if the release drags on too long, people will be burned out of playing HC and the splash of the official HC realms release will be smaller than expected?

No with any new server you will see a big spike of people, probably with new people just wanting to try it out, that and it being fresh. This should last for 3-6 months where then the population will taper off probably significantly, but there should still be a good amount of people playing. While at launch there probably might be the people to support several servers, I expect after 6 months, and certainly a year, the population will be small enough that one server will be all that’s requried.

There will likely be a high degree of burnout though as with any HC type environment, and end game options are relatively limited to the majority of people, so the main draw of the server is really just the repetitive leveling experience, and level 60 dungeon running, so that will also push populations down in the long run.

expect it to be smaller due to that official HC ruleset

There will be queues on release, Blizzard will open additional realms and a few months later, only one realm will survive.

If the Era release taught us one thing, then it´s that. The majority of people want a fresh start, since Era will not be fresh any time soon, they will jump on HC.

I expect the population will be much larger due to the official Blizzard rules, it will allow a much more diverse group of people to play on the server where the underlying theme is death = restart, but where other portions of the game aren’t eliminated such as most professions or the ability to do quests with other people for those who chose to use such things, and yet where they can also make things as challenging as they want by not grouping, not trading, etc or even continuing to use the add-on.

There are really only two reasons why some of the current SSF crowd would want to avoid the server, the first because they are upset that they can’t force everyone to play the way they want and want to make a point, the second reason is that, with no appeals process, they actually have to be HC and can’t die like they currently can and be able to still consider themselves HC.

Im thinkin somewhere between 3-6 months

Itll take SSFers the 1st month to get a character passed the pillagers

Large initial wave of players

Will weed out those who just cant be bothered to reroll more than one or two times over, say, maybe a month.

Population will remain fairly consistent for another month or so until even the more persistent players trying HC out either die at a higher level and just don’t consider redoing those levels worthwhile, etc. Which you can’t really blame them for depending on level reached prior to death.

After a two month period I would guess that most people active on the server are those more committed to HC playstyles, SSF or official.

it’s essentially a fresh server
as such its lifespan will take on a very similar trajectory
big spike, slow drop off, low flat line near the end

People can get bored in bsb / ptr. But the population Will be crazy af in release.

Only som 2 can make a big rip in HC realms in this won’t happen soon.

If You want lvl a character in era You Will level in HC server and Transfer after ded, that option is pure Magic tbh

i just started HC a little over a month ago im already getting burnt out. was using it as practice expected to at least hit 60 by now but due to my dumb actions i die a lot.

in the end will be like everything else with WoW. HUGE spike in population up front, slow decline throughout, smaller population at the end. rest would of quit by now for w.e. reasons or take a break. it’s ALWAYS the same trend. No doubt though people are burnt out but im sure like myself we will still play around launch because lets be real launches are usually fun for everyone for their own reasons. i like seeing the mass amount of players in general despite how difficult it will be to tag mobs and all that.

on PTR im just toying around but on BSB i probably give up on that already I am hoping they release in august idk if i can wait until september. if september yea i just might actually quit altogether. it’s just getting harder and harder for me to play WoW or in my case want to play. i would invest my time in another similar game at that point. offers the same thing as HC but much smaller community.

Agreed. The draw will be the fresh server. Playing the ptr, you quickly find the HC flavor is missing. Got a bag drop? No one announces to celebrate because no one cares. There are 3 guys sitting in Razor Hill crafting bags for linen + 2s.

Got a green drop you can’t use? No one announces to shared commiseration because you can just trade it or put it on the AH.

I understand that not everyone wants the HC ruleset and that’s okay. But to say the removal of the restrictions has no effect on the server community isn’t true.

There’s just no camaraderie on the ptr like there was on BsB.

Id say 3 months. I doubt Blizzard sees these as long terms servers. HC is a gimmick and thats ok. This is a fun challenge for veteran WoW players.

It would be helpful if Blizzard added a title or something to people pursuing SSF, etc.

With titles, achievements, armor color, etc. for SSF, I can imagine a BsB type guild environment co-existing just fine on generic HC.

Any evidence to support this or just a claim by itself?

I’m calling it dead on next seasonal announcement

lol

My thought is the same but still suspect it largely depends on the ruleset for next seasonal.
