As someone who plays late night/early morning and hates combat themed RP, the dream of finding a steady guild for some of my little weirdos is good and dead. I’m sure I’m not the only one facing this for whatever reason. So, Moon Guard, tell me about your own characters that you love, but just don’t seem to fit in anywhere.
I’ve had some issues finding guilds in the past and even starting up a guild earlier this year. What am I’m finding is alot of the guilds I’m interested in either has a race restriction or have some element that doesn’t make sense for my character. I find a good chunk of people don’t seem to like adventure/merc guilds while some crime and military guilds thrive. In fact when I had my guild up and running people told that adventure/merc guilds where a dime a dozen when all I ever saw where the above two.
Theres also the fact I enjoy the cheesy, comic book side of WoW’s story rather then the darker storylines some people like to push. Don’t get me wrong some darkness is good in a story but I don’t like it coloring my whole story.
But ultimately what I think has REALLY hurt finding a guild that fits you is the loss of a stickied guild listing thread for both factions that we had on the old forums. It was much eaiser to scroll through and look through a list of potential guilds, read their description and figure out if it was right for you.
Humans behind the screen. Most RP guilds mirror real life television.
Swat,SealTeam,NCIS,Chicagothisthatandtheotherthing,LAWorderSVU and on and on and on. Why come up with original material for your guild when you can just copy paste. To be honest all my characters on RP servers never fit. 98% of them are hacks that fall away after 1month.
So you end up with the cess pool of hate we call WrA valley of honor OR MoonGuard ERPshire ! Game needs to die off or sold to Method Corporation.
I’ve always had trouble finding places for my characters to fit. Either the community is too tight-knit and difficult to break into, or their events are too shallow to keep my interest. What good is having five events a week if the characters never talk to one another outside of that, or get to know each other beyond the depth of a puddle?
I don’t necessarily care what the theme is so long as there’s an obvious effort being placed on character interaction and growth- I’ve yet to find a guild that satisfied that itch, and it’s why I’ve made my own for the past 15 years.
I’m in the same boat. I haven’t really been able to find a guild since coming back to the game, because work and sleep only leave me about 3 hours where I get to play in the late morning/early afternoon EST. I also have a preference away from race/class restricted guilds regardless of what I’m currently playing, and am generally a pretty casual RPer who would rather be open to whatever than laser focused on one specific aspect of the game/lore. I’m honestly not even sure which server is best for me given my schedule. This character is parked on WrA, but I have a MG version of him as well, and since I’m just coming back, rerolling Alliance, and seeing the A-side storyline for the first time, I haven’t even really been able to dip my toe into the RP water much to see which server would even allow me to RP with my schedule. I might be relegated to random pickup RP, which is difficult when I’m rusty as hell.
This right here is what I find to be a big problem. Trying to break into any tight-knit group if you don’t have a friend there already is tough. I’ve seen way too many guilds who won’t do much with their new recruits outside of events, or keep their circle even in a event that was meant for everyone.
The guilds that do have alot of events are not usually that planned out and can burn a person out.
They’re not wrong. A new one seems to pop up and die every month or so, same with noble houses, but if you can make it work, go for it. There are always people interested in those.
It is true I’ll admit that they do seem to blink in and out of existence but more so the point of people criticizing them when you can say the exact same thing about criminal or military guilds also showing up in great abundance at times.
I’m not saying any of those are bad but it does get annoying when I’m told “Ew ANOTHER adventure guild” by the guy in criminal or military guild number 1068.
I feel ya. It does get old after a while, but in a way haters are good fuel to keep going.
If you enjoy then keep doing it. The key I’ve found is just find people that share your interest and focus on having fun. Before you know it you’ll have a tight group and can’t wait to hope back online.
I feel ya, its hard to find a guild sometime and even can be harder to feel like you fit in when circles are already formed, as for the militiary guilds, sometimes i wonder why a bunch of the smaller ones dont just merge, bunch of units in one banner make yourselves stronger
I would 100% join an adventurer’s guild. It’s a natural extension of how many of us play the game and how some of us RP in it, and it allows for a very broad variety of characters. Not every guild has to be ‘Gilnean mafia guild for humans and worgen between the ages of 24 and 36, no priests or DKs’ in order to be good or successful.
Just because there are a lot of guilds that are very niche and very vocal about it, doesn’t mean that there’s no demand for something more broad and inclusive.
Someone should make this guild we are all looking for. Surely there are interested members, haha. I find myself on the same boat and agree to everything I’ve read so far.
Thanks to the help of some fabulous friendly strangers, I’ve managed to make the guild I was looking for- a non-military place for my night elves to make long-lasting friends. There’s been a few bumps in the road (you’d probably not be shocked to know how many awful people play this game masquerading behind a well-written character), but there’s a solid base of good friends that I feel are going to make this new home into a great place worth sticking with.
So I guess if ya got an elf that isn’t down for the war gig, and you’ve got a good, non-offensive personality, maybe this guild might make a nice home? ~_^
Is that even possible with the current state of the story?
Of course Blizzard has a habit of leaving the more neutral leaning Rpers to the way-side.
Now that I think about it actually the Earthen-Ring and Circle are trying to focus on healing Azeorth so that could be a nice window.
This is definitely my little troublemaker that is a bit of a misfit. She’s amazing for walk-ups and surprisingly can get actual story progression that way, but as far as guilds go she is a bit an oddball for the most part. Despite that, I love playing the character and I’ve had multiple different and interesting interactions with her.
Also in regards to Launalai’s guild, I definitely recommend them as if they seem to be filled with great people both ICly and OOCly. Also I hope I didn’t terrorize them too much when I came by. ;_;
Not everyone is on the war-field at all times, nor do they have to be. Who feeds the troops? Who takes care of the refugees and the injured? Who provides for the civilians and rebuilds homes after the fighting is done? That’s our lean. We’re not against the war, we’re just taking on a non-violent role, like the Red Cross.
Our dear friends commend you for your commitment to the role, even when it’s one that is difficult for other characters to stand for more than a few minutes. But what do they know anyway, they’re just meanie weenies!
That’s fair. I wasn’t really thinking about the back-line jobs.
Hopefully Shadowlands isn’t such a cluster of a story as we’ve had in BfA so far, it feels like nothing good has came from it at all.
This, this is me this priest is too old to fight on front lines so he spends his time helping those ravaged by war, do you accept everyone? Or just Elves?
Alas, we’re an elf and worgen organization! But judging by just how popular the theme has been so far, something tells me a group of humans would be just as well received should anyone want to take that up!
That sums up most of my characters (this one included-- Blizzard hasn’t refreshed the character as I haven’t logged into him in awhile but when I came back from a medical hiatus I found the guild he was in was pretty close to non-active and I’m bummed, as I never got to really RP with anyone
).
Anyway, yeah. I think there are more folks like this out there than anyone realizes, and I wish there were more guilds out there that weren’t combat-centric in their themes. Nothing wrong with those guilds of course–just not really what I’d like to RP at this point in my life.
I left the same guild on an alt too, partially for the same reason, partially for other reasons. I hope you will find a new group to be part of. It’s out there even if it may take a bit to find, I’m sure (at least that’s what I am telling myself lol) <3
