Hard to find groups

Hi everyone,

I am in the server Herod - i picked it because of the high population because I wanted to constantly be around other players and play with them. I find it frustrating that its hard to get a dungeon group for lower level dungeons like WC and SFK. Whats the deal?!

At least this part of Classic is accurate to Vanilla. It’s why they eventually added cross-server grouping and such.

I blame boosting.

If you’re Horde you’ll find groups for those. If you Alliance well…

Alliance only seems to run VC, Stocks, and maybe SM.

here come the mages to defend their boosting gold farm, then when we mention fly hacking they get interestingly silent, only a low percentage mages are actually able to boost in zg, unless you fly hack, which primarily bots are only able to do with precision.

Nah, boosting happened in Vanilla too. It’s just game design, it funnels people to level 60 and they have no real reason to do lower level content. So that lower level content is simply something to race through to get to raiding.

Sadly Dungeon finder wasn’t added until MUCH later, I think in WOTLK expansion. I’m running into the issue as well on a new server I started playing on, Pagle, which is a high population server even, and as a HEALER. Boosting is nice, I’m guilty of buying runs on my horde server, but i’m noticing how much it kinda drains the gameplay when you can’t afford it. There will be 3 groups of people that could all do deadmines/stockades just fine, standing around waiting on a level 60 to run them. Half the time they take so long to buy a run that they could have already done it themselves.

A lot of the die hard vanilla fans, and even some younger gamers like myself in their late 20’s dislike dungeon finder, but I loved it. I don’t think it hurt the game at all, and like cross server bg’s it’s kind of a needed thing because it takes a pool of players regardless of the server and allows them to do content in a timely manner. I couldn’t even BEGIN to imagine trying to level on a low population server, or even a medium one without dungeon finder. I mean sure, it’s possible, but I don’t have time for that, and I’m not gonna put myself through that, so login queue/high pop servers are a must imo.

I disagree.

At this point, I’d be willing to accept it if they restricted it to dungeons for players <50. If they could do that it would really help.

It’s pretty hard to find dungeons in general as a DPS, since the massive wave of players are 60 now. If you’re not a tank or healer finding a group is still a challenge at 60 - most people don’t need dungeons anymore.

Currently fishing deviate fish on my pally that’s level 21, because due to classic culture, that’s still faster than trying to weed through all these boost groups and find an actual group. I’m litterally farming gold to pay mages for runs, even on a new server without a main, because without group finder that’s STILL more time efficient than grinding mobs or whatever. If we had dungeon finder I could chain heal dungeons back to back all day and be 60 in a reasonable amount of time, and no I don’t think that’s lazy at all, i’d still be putting in the effort the whole way through. It just cuts down on boosting and on the logistics of it all for people on anything but a full server.

And here’s the catch 22, you have to pretty much roll on high pop/full realms to find groups prior to 60, like consistently, but then when the queue gets to high and people ask for layers or whatever, people on forums with their 60’s they speed leveled months ago say something like ‘‘Well that’s what you get for rolling on a full server’’

That’s the ironic thing here, coming from people who will tell you dungeon finder ruined the game. So either way you’re wrong. Guess we should have all taken a month or two off work or quit our jobs altogether and speed leveled as soon as classic came out. God forbid blizzard actually links the servers for dungeons, for the exact same reasons as before.

Do research, find a medium pop server with at least 40% alliance/horde. Find out what you want in a character. Mind the pvp servers though. As for specifically WC is confusing, just pick of the hides quest, and SFK is out of the way and no alliance will run it, with no quests and no achievements.

As for dungeons from my wotlk/tbc experience I remember grouping with three other dps does improve grouping speed as a tank/healer is more likely to join a group of people with three dps than a single dps.

Also try joining LFG chat as that might allow you to spam while leveling.

Pagle is doing better - although SFK is in a very inconvenient place…

Then watch as Blizzard targets it for free transfers and it goes to full in a matter of days. It’ll get queues and every farming spot will be too packed to do anything!

As Horde or as Alliance? And how hard?

One strategy is to find a leveling guild with a few active members roughly around your level, who play roughly around the same times as you. I did that on this character, and was lucky with the second leveling guild I found a great group of people who would become friends, to level with.

We almost never used LookingForGroup, as we tended to prefer grouping with others from the guild, and tried to encourage that as a way to build guild community (most of us ended up joining the same raiding guild at max level, so we are still together).

Not all leveling guilds are the same. Some are much less or much more active. It depends a lot on how they are managed, and who happens to be leveling in them at the time.

I suspect that finding a great leveling guild with like-minded players will be a little more difficult than finding a dungeon group, but will make the rest of the entire journey more pleasant.

Good luck!

I tried to find a SFK group for five days for my Paladin quest. I ended up gaining a few levels questing and just soloed to the quest item.

Were you willing to tank/heal? I find it a lot easier if I’m willing to do that. But that instance in particular will be hard for Ally to get a group for given its location.

I put myself out there as dps/heals.

Not true, boosting was not a popular method of levelling in Vanilla.

Sure, people did it for their mates - but it was not done on a commercial scale.
