Hard mode for retail

I would love a difficulty increase to the leveling process with rewards. I think if you could pick an expansion AND a difficulty that would be great. If you tied hardcore in with that system, I would definitely play retail hardcore. :stuck_out_tongue:

The game is simply too easy while leveling. Truly.

Full agree. Retail leveling is really not engaging at all. Gearing feels completely pointless during it

Leveling is supposed to be easy. I wouldn’t mind some form of additional hard mode leveling but don’t tie any rewards to it so the casuals don’t feel forced to use it.

I would love a retail HC mode. Make it its own server with AH separate from Regional. Also disable flying. Maybe even disable group finder too.

Leveling still takes too long for my taste.

Seconding. It’s miserable imo.

it can be done in 4-6 hours 1 to max.

I said what I said.

While I think it would be cool, you can do all those things now in retail. Make a dead-is-dead character. Refuse to use group finder. Don’t use a flying mount. Don’t use heirlooms. Don’t give the new character gold. Etc.

I feel like these threads boil down to “I want it to take more time to do a thing.” Like, who wants more corpse runs? More deaths? More seconds to kill mobs? Does your time mean nothing to you?

Because this is still a game that takes time, time that in the last week I did not even have. Slowing down the game in any fashion is just alien to me.

If the game was like classic, and that’s what you’re driving at, then I’d just be unsubbed and playing no man’s sky by now.

But to be fair I don’t play to be challenged, I play to be entertained. As long as this is more interactive than the TV I’m probably good with it being severely easy even.

Sounds kind of awful tbh.

You could do what HC did and start promoting a self imposed rule set until it gets enough steam for Blizzard to notice.

Don’t equip gear higher than greens unless you craft it yourself.

which is still too long. the leveling in wow is abysmal.

Heck no! Bads don’t need harder. Wear less gear to make it harder!

Ok :+1:

They should also add an NPC that’s always following you at RP walk speed and if it catches up to you, you die. Of course, Hard Core server rules so that’s that.

What else can we do to make this as masochist as possible. Oh! Vigor system for running. Need to manage your stamina or you get winded and have to slow down to a walk or take a short rest.

And the ground is lava.

This is priceless. /printscreen /frame.

Maybe all your gear is always broken, and even though it never repairs, you, for some unknown reason, still repair it all. the. time. Honestly, it consumes your game as a terrible mini game of anxiety.

Maybe instead of getting your mount at level 10, they push that waaaay back. Instead, from levels 1 -10 only from your waist up is above ground and this causes you to walk insanely slow. Like, makes you shake your leg IRL slow.

What if everything from the auction house just went to random people who have no idea who bought it, but the game makes the buyer perceive that they do know.

How’s about from levels 10-20 you are now above ground, but you are forced to play in tandem with another player who is either half your age, or twice your age and also speaks a different language than you know.

Gold comes with a dot. so the more you have, the more it ticks away at your life at all times.

Randomly, during raids, the video quality turns grainy and that brown and white color with fast paced piano playing. That’s it. no mods, no other sound, just a silent movie for an entire boss fight. - that could be comical.

There are ways folks can do this running Classic, and all it’s incarnations.

Season of Discovery looks pretty neat. I won’t play it, but if you want “leveling to be slow and grueling”, well, SoD has you covered. I mean, a L25 BFD raid is kind of cool, on paper. I think the idea is neat as they unlock the leveling over time.

The whole thing looks fun, to a point.

So, go there.

I mean, the beauty about cheap leveling in Retail is that leveling is CHEAP! After you spend your 400 hours leveling in Classic, you get a high level toon.

If you want a high level toon in Retail, it’s a few hours, or a boost, or a whatever. In the end you get a high level toon. It’s not like any of the gear they got is any good, there’s no value to leveling outside of, well, leveling! (Beyond the fundamental play experience).

But tangibly in terms of rewards, or gear, or anything else? No. No value in leveling. All that stuff is junk, it was junk when you got it, it’ll be more junk in the the 30m it lasts on your character, and when you ding top level, you drag a drop a set of catch up gear shooting you up from 180 to 400.

So.

If you want the experience, go do Classic, SoD, Wrath, whatever. Go do that. If, at the end, you want a high level whatever-class-you-leveled in retail, “Gee why can’t I transfer?”, then just level a new one. You can level one faster than it takes to whine about it on the forums. At that point, what difference does it make?
