"Hang On Sloopy" Is The State Of Ohio's Official Rock Song

That is both the most interesting and asinine thing I’ve ever heard.

This is false. This is NOT the state of Ohio’s song.

This is OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY’S song.

This also has nothing to do with WoW.

Also: please don’t call a university’s song “asinine.” That’s rather disrespectful. Learn the history of why before you make such comments.

Ahhh, so the OP is trolling because the musician died. Not cringe at all

Correct. One of the writers died. I wrote “interesting” because I always thought Rick Derringer of McCoys fame had written it.

“Asinine” because… well, that’s just my opinion.

Again, not meant to troll anyone. Excuse me placing it in GD at the beginning.

The song is not the state song. It’s the univerisity’s song, which he called “asinine.” It’s a tradition and started when a student at Ohio State thought it would make a good marching band song. The students rehearsed it, loved it, and…

The timing is dynamite: The McCoys’ “Hang on Sloopy” hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list on Oct. 2, 1965 — exactly one week before the Ohio State marching band played it for the first time in Ohio Stadium.

It’s been tradition since and the OP is making fun of that.

I don’t take kindly to such things.

Again, read the title and look it up, sir. AFAIK, my leaving out the fact that it is the university’s song, is what upset you. Sorry, but I stand by my title and its content.

*Madam. And I live in Ohio. I dislike people disrespecting a marching band tradition by calling it “asinine.”

Madam. Apologies - it’s hard to tell. Did I disrespect the band? Where?

I was in my own band’s drumline, so you won’t see me disrespecting those kids. Again, sorry you took it that way.

I’m perfectly okay with you reporting the thread as being offensive, however, if that will make it right, but again: I stand by what I wrote.

Dude, ignore them. You can think a song is asinine if you want. I bet there are songs out there she thinks are asinine.

Btw, I agree with you and I live in the middle of Buckeye country.

Edit: I mean that literally. If I could get away with making a public announcement to put that person on ignore, I would.

You literally just said it. And I have no clue what your problem is. You and I used to be friends. Then you went off the deep end and you’ve been rather hostile the past year or two.

I said I take offense to the OP calling a tradition from a marching band “asinine.” Why is it okay for him to give an opinion and not me?

Why is your view suddenly okay but mine means everyone should put me on ignore?

Seriously, you actually go out of your way to be hostile towards me and it’s mind boggling. Even after you put me on ignore. I’m not the one with a problem here.

I’ll make this one more comment and then, if a mod wishes to close it down, that’s fine with me.

If I were an Ohio resident, and were given the choice between Hang On Sloopy and Four Dead In Ohio (Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young), as the state’s Official Rock Song, I guess Sloopy would be my girl.

Everyone please smooth your feathers back down and enjoy your weekend and game!:+1::heart:
