Handling It: Taut Tethercoil

Why is this quest designed to be so finicky?

First: You have to be out of combat to use it.
Second: You need to be in range, but not aggro range!
Third: The tether breaks stupendously easy; sometimes it just breaks randomly.
Fourth: Not only do you need to get out of combat to try and use it again before your target dies, but it has a 30s cooldown.

I already don’t like doing Superblooms, but it’s ridiculously easy to not get credit on the final boss because of these additional hoops. God forbid a nearby random enemy aggros onto you, or you go too close to one of the blossoms trying to flee combat, and get dismounted. Or you could be like me, get in range to use the item, and he takes one step away and snaps it, and then I leap out, aggro a mob, and then get dismounted by a blossom all in one shot, and am unable to even use it again at all.

This quest chain is already not engaging in this part, as it has nothing to do with Amirdrassil, and is entirely rooted in things outside of the raid itself. Mindlessly flying around for rares to tether is annoying as it is with the pretty terrible framerate of the Emerald Dream, and enough tree branch collision to give Spiderman PTSD.

Please change this, so that those after me are not punished by this.
Edit: Please extend this to the final raid version to facilitate people doing this in LFR without having to make multiple queue attempts. I got it on first try, but I was lucky as heck.

Yeah I have to say this one could use some attention. With the number of people getting this legendary there’s a clear ‘mob mentality’ and the rares are getting sniped.
Maybe for the first few weeks this felt fun and rewarding; but now it feels bad enough that it really breaks the fourth wall. I don’t like quests that require you to meta and research forums for some loophole mechanic.
I don’t realm / shard hop as a rule, but for this quest I feel like I am being required to. And then when it comes to getting credit I don’t understand what the Tethercoil Rune’s mechanics, which the OP accurately described as finicky, don’t have to be that way. If this worked like similar quest items, allowing you to activate in combat, it would feel a thousand times better. Likewise, 10.2.5 should have done to Amirdrassil what 10.2 did to Zarelek Caverns by way of adjusting rare spawns so there’s always one or two up, allowing the people on this quest to work together instead of sniping rares in a case of fomo.

I appreciate the direction these legendary quests are taking - bringing geared players into world content - but I’d take having to grind twice as many Superblooms as opposed to fumbling with this rune or dealing with these rare spawn times.

I would appreciate it if they actually said what breaks the tether. I have times I can solo a 5 mil hp rare as prot pally, and it stay. When other times It will break after I cast judgement and consecration. But best fix would be to enable it to be used in combat. Love how you can use it while still mounted and it not dismount you, haven’t tried to see if i get credit if I only do tether, since I am just camping super bloom boss.

The fact that blizzard leaves this item in this state ABSOLUTELY blows my mind. There is NO logical reason for this to be this way. I don’t understand why Blizzard CONTINUES to add things into their games that ARE NOT fun.

im at 29 and now mine will just not drop anymore. i get it hooked up and it stays up after the mob is dead but it wont give me anymore

Same here. I got to 16 and nothing. Killed like 15 mobs after that and still nothing!

My client patched on 2/8 in the middle of the day. Everything was working fine before that. Now my tether stays after the rare is dead and it says out of range without giving me a tethercoil.

I am experiencing the same issue where the tether remains and no item is acquired. This was working fine last night prior to the update my client did today.

I just got the quest this morning and have killed about 5 rares with the tether still on it and get no count towards the quest after it is dead.

I am also getting the problem where the tether connects and persists through death without awarding the taut tethercoil items.

Disabled all addons, restarted the computer and client. Dropped the quest and picked it back up, issue persists.
Submitted a ticket so in 24+ hours might get an update on this.

Same here. I was getting the taut tethercoil for each rare I did last night but I’ve killed 5 in a row now and haven’t gotten any today. The tethercoil link persists after I kill them but I get nothing.

I put in a ticket, too.

Can confirm, also having the same issue with the tethercoil link persisting after the boss dies and no Taut Tethercoil being received.

Same here was able to do it at lunch today without issue, they patched and now i cant do it.

not to mention, now the coils aren’t dropping for TWO DAYS now… i dont know how they managed to do this. They need to just remove the quest out of the lego grind and stop tossing midgets around the workplace cuz this is just ridiculous. 1 patch = something gets sent to the gulag.

Blizz pls, i just want the fire axe, fix ya bug.

Echoing the same, after logging in early yesterday I can’t seem to get any more tether coils. Worked fine Tuesday so I’m currently stuck at 19/50.

I’m stuck at 19/50 as well. Was working perfectly till I got the 19th and then it stopped issuing the quest item. I even have tried on entirely new rares today thinking it may be some silly anti-farm BS, but nope…nothing today after another 5 kills.

Literally cannot progress the legendary quest after getting the drop so late in the season. Super disappointed.
