I noticed while playing, the mobs act very similar to how they do in BFA, instead of how they do in vanilla. In vanilla, the mobs took a bit to start chasing you after you started running, allowing you to trade autos 1 for 1 with mobs, increasing your chances of survival. When trying the hamstring method on the demo I found it much more difficult, as the enemies were getting off two or three hits even while performing the hamstring method.
I understand that the demo is just a demo, and that it's very early days, they still have until Summer 2019, however I do think this should be addressed, because blizzard asked for feedback in the Classic Discussion forums so here I am.
I hope this gets changed and we can have a more authentic version of Mob AI that is true to the Classic WoW experience.
Has anyone else noticed this?
The basic mechanics played a much larger role in vanilla than they do in retail. If this is going to be little more than a retail client with vanilla abilities, it will end up being an extremely different experience than what vanilla was.
Most definitely, in an environment where you can't fire off 20 abilities in 10 seconds similar to modern day wow, auto attacks rise in value substantially. Furthermore, enemy auto attacks matter much more due to longer combat times since they don't die in 2-3 seconds.
As much as I want to say "this is how it was" you are trying to describe how something worked 15 years ago.. And if you had played any other expansions or even private servers your memory is going to be tainted.
To say "This is exactly how it was" means you must have a photographic memory. Congratulations!

Some people do, it's also easy to recall things that were muscle memory when you did a certain task numerous / countless times to a point where you master that task; you just know when something is "off".

Yeah, you're right that I don't know exactly how it was, no doubt about that. However Deathbonerz pretty much summed it up. Also looking back at old footage and playing countless hours back in vanilla gives me some sort of credibility I hope. What worries me most is just how close to BFA/Legion the mobs seem to be in terms of their movement patterns is all. Hopefully they look into this situation and find a suitable solution.

I want to say I vaguely remember this is how it used to be. I don't think my memory would be tainted by later xpacs, because it's not something I ever really felt I had to do in later xpacs.

I'm also wondering how it might affect tanking. In vanilla, properly positioning a mob (or raid boss, heaven forbid) promptly was a legitimate skill that helped good tanks really stand out. Mob positioning, and how they react to their target moving, is very different in retail compared to how it worked in vanilla.
I’ve noticed that my warrior’s hamstring strike doesn’t slow down any of the mobs for even a second in BFA. Maybe the mobs are going slower, but nothing like when I use the sneak shot with a Rogue. There’s a little dizzy sign above the mob and they really do move slower, but not with the hamstring strike. Anyone else notice this?
Just heroic leap bro…wait nvm
Reporting in from Classic WoW launch. Can confirm the Hamstring method is busted as OP explained.
