Hammer of Wrath prot paladin SL concern

So prot is getting hammer of wrath in SL and it will generate holy power which is used for shield of the righteous and light of the protector. These spells are our active tanking spells to keep us alive and therefore avenging wrath will make us tankier.

But the problem is that hammer of wrath is only usable when wings is up and when a mob is low hp (20% I think). Now the wings part isn’t a problem it makes wings a defensive cooldown and not just a dps one albeit not a very good defensive CD.

The problem is when a raid boss is low hp we will be tankier because we will consistently generate more holy power. But I hear you saying “But flauris I’m a tank I want to be tankier!” Well the problem is what will blizzard balance around? We will either be stronger than any other tank when a boss is low hp or weaker than every tank while the boss is above low hp.

A fix to this problem and a problem ret has is to give us a spammable generator. If hammer of rightousness (I think that’s what the spell is called…) was spammable hammer of wrath would just effectively replace a hammer of rightousness cast and we wouldn’t be tankier when we have a low hp target.

I think that’s a good idea. I hate the idea of having an execute on my tank though. You do have to consider that a lot of bosses start pumping out a lot more damage at low health (Ra-Den or Vexiona for example) so having extra defenses will be really helpful in those fights. I still don’t want it though.

I see what you are saying and I could be wrong but it just doesn’t seem that big of an bonus to have such a meaningful impact… So I don’t think is a problem tbh.

I mean sure, technically we are going to be slightly tankier with wings up or when the boss is below 20% health but I don’t think the 1 extra HP every 7.5s is going to make that big of a difference to the point where they would need to make us weaker outside of it to “compensate”.

I really seriously doubt the little extra bonus HP generation from it could produce anything close to this difference in power. No way we will fluctuate between No1 to dead last just because of that.

Prot is so fun in there I wish I could read the horde chat

There is a potion you can get from the underbelly in dalaran that will do that.

Well apparently Judgement won’t be generating holy power for prot. So I think you’ve got bigger issue than Hammer of Wrath.

Just seeing that now… What are they thinking…

Seems like this is their reaction to is saying “great I can have 100% SotR and I’ll never use WoG”

Blizzard is just mad we aren’t paying their way.

But you will use Word of Glory, as every 3 Judgement’s it cost no holy power.
And can’t you stack Shield of the Righteous’s duration to something like 12 seconds or so(I don’t play prot so I don’t really know, I just hear they could on the alpha) If that’s the case, wouldn’t you then use holy power on Word of Glory in the meantime.

And I don’t see prot generating an obscene amount of holy power that they’d have to remove Judgement generating holy power.

But it wouldn’t surprise me they’d do a nerf like this, because people are playing the spec not how they perceived it should be played. This happened back in Cataclysm, where raiding prot paladins would pretty much only use Word of Glory. So that put a whopping 20 second CD on it.
Then again, they did allow holy to continue playing the Gimmer build playstyle(even though that wasn’t intentional)and are even bringing it over to Shadowlands.
