Hallowfall Graphics Stuttering/Jerky

Hey gang, quick question about Hallowfall.

Just upgraded my PC to a 9800x3d & 7900xtx, have everything maxed out except Ray Tracing.

In Dorn, I get 110-144 FPS which is pretty good. Most other places 144 steady.

In Hallowfall my FPS is showing decent FPS at 100-144 but I am getting a lot of stuttering/jerking with my frames. Even after dropping the settings to 1 drom 10 the same thing keeps happening but only Hallowfall.

Anyone else have issues there?

Is this constant, one time, or only during peak time?

Wait for Swifty

As soon as I fly into the zone it seems to be everywhere I look and move to.

My latency is good as well at 30-50.

sorry replied with one of my other toons. RT is off you said? Any add ons you have running? Disable them and try it out. Test it out view distance set to 1 (I know you said graphics were set to 1 just double check and apply). Assuming this is not an upstream issue perhaps its scheduling with a drawcall. Video card drivers are all updated?

I am just trying to cover all Avenues here.

  1. Try disabling all add-ons and see if this issue still happens

  2. Try disabling Virtual Sync and see if that resolves the issue.

  3. I know this is a silly question but it’s something easy to forget to do from time to time especially when you are excited about a new build. You didn’t mention it so I figured I’d ask. What Ram kit specifically do you have? Is your RAM kit specifically marked as an AMD Expo kit? Also did you enable Expo/XMP/DOCP in your bios?

I don’t like Taylor Swift so I’m not a Swifty :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It sounds like the OP is on a brand new build so I’m assuming this has been done but it is a great thing to consider also as a fourth option.

He said “upgraded” so I figured new parts in the same platform. I’ve actually seen people post similar problems in WoW with the 7900xtx. I can’t recall what the issue or solution was.

My mistake I missed the part about him saying he upgraded

In my experience it’s the in game virtual sync 9/10. I have yet to figure out why myself but it is notorious for causing flickering and artifacts on AMD graphics cards

Hey all, thanks for the help!

So my Ram is Corsair Vengenace 2x16gb 6000mhz cl30 kit. Upgraded thr Mobo and Ram as well(pretty all new except the case and psu lol).

I do have all the latest drivers yup.

I have also watched some you tube tutorials and have my Ram XMP is enabled and OC’d a hair, verified its stable.

Ive ran 3dmark tests for my system and it scores well above average for same specs (think the overclocking has helped).

I did some teoubleshooting that was recommended. Tried view distance at 1 from 10, still stutters with graphics settings ll the way down to 1.

I do have vsync disabled, found a youtube video by MysticalOS WOW where he states that you should turn it off if you have GSymc or Freesync.

I then disabled all addons, it did help a lot ( I run Atrocitys UI which has lots going on) but still had to reduce the graphics and view distance to about a 3 or 4 for things to be fluid.

After watching more of that same youtube video he explains there can be an issue with adjusting the renderscale where it should improve FPS by lowering it from 100% but some systems have a bug where reducing it drastically impacts your FPS in a negative way… Mine was set to 98%. I adjusted that back to 100% and it helped tremendously.

Ive since reanabled my addons, and set graphics to 7 across the board and its performing much much better. Still get some stuttering but it’s more tolerable. I could probably disable atrocitys UI and use less addons to bump up my perfomance further.

Still don’t understand how being in Dorn with all the other players performs better than flying around Hallowfall. I guess it’s just and insanley demanding area.

Going to play around a bit more when I have time. Let you know if I find anything else.

Thanks.

The only thing you didn’t mention is if you have updated your bios to the most recent version. You can download it from your motherboard’s website. If you have you’re set to go if you haven’t I would highly recommend doing that

Also make sure the BIOS you download is not a beta bios.

Out of curiosity how many watts is your PSU? I asked because 800w is pretty much bottom of the barrel when it comes to that graphics card. You can get by on it but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Did I miss a post where he said he had a 800w unit?

No you didnt Lily. He said he upgraded everything EXCEPT his PSU and Case. Older cards/CPUs were not very demanding. 850w was average 3-5 years ago. Not sure how often the OP upgrades but I saw he didnt upgrade his PSU. So I asked him how many watts his PSU was. I was saying if its around 800w that isnt enough for that GPU/CPU combo even though AMD list 800w as the minimum for the 7900 XTX. Thats a bare bones wattage. Even an 850w would be pushing it imo.

If I was pairing a 9800x3D with a 7900 XTX I would be looking at 1000-1200w PSU. These are top tier Parts am I right? Id rather have more than not enough

Whenever you upgrade the GPU it’s often a good idea to check out the PSU if it’s up to task and if it’s time to maybe move on to a new unit. That all depends on use, parts, and the quality of the unit itself.

the OP should be around 400w to 500w in gaming depending on the game but 7900 XTX can definitely spike up to 450w by itself. A proper ATX 3.x will handle that spike, previous ATX specs at that wattage can (and have) triggered their OCP even the quality ones. So definitely something to keep in mind. Also units that are 500w, 600w, 700w, and 800w tend to be cost cutting platforms & parts as to their 450w, 550w, 650w, 750w sibling units. So “if” that were the case I would be hesitant to stay with such a set up unless I really new the exact PSU.

a quality 1000w unit would definitely handle that set up and most upgrades

have enough to fulfill your needs now and down the road just understand “more” doesn’t make your PC perform better as long as the units fulfills the parts needs. So your 7600x CPU& RTX 3070ti GPU will have the same performance with a 650w PSU as it will with a 800w unit. If both PSU cost the same yet the 650w is rated for 50c, passes gold efficiency in a hot box test, and comes with a ten year warranty than it’s an excellent investment for a decade. If that 800w is 25c rated, can’t even hit 800w in a hot box test, and comes with a two year warranty and free T-shirt…well after two or three years at least you will have the T-shirt and a paper weight.

This is my exact thought Process.

Im on a 1200w PSU. Seasonic Vertex PX (I LOVE this PSU). I wont deny the PX Platinum is total overkill but its a very nice premium PSU and I got a great deal it. I got the 1200w Seasonic Vertex PX 1200w for the price of the Seasonic Vertex GX 1000w. Paid $200 USD for it. I got it mainly because I started with an RTX 4090 and the 13900k powerhog. I wanted PSU that would last. Im in a MUCH better situation since I gave up my 13900k platform for the 7950x3D.

Hey all, my PSU is a 850Watt. When i put all my parts into pc part picker. com i think it showed around 675 Watt Draw so i assumed my current PSU is good enough. I could be wrong and you could be right about upgrading it to a 1000w or more.

If you decide to? This is a really good band psu for the Price. The cables are also individually braided which is a nice touch :ok_hand: It has has a NATIVE 12vhpwr port if you ever move to an Nvidia Card.

I’m not one to push getting new parts if the ones you have are working under spec. What is the make and model of your unit and how long have you had it?
