What am I missing about this?
I tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago, and got the 3 “trophy” fish in about 15mins. Seemed fun enough, I should do this more often for all the xmog, etc.
I tired it earlier today and sure enough, in the first 10 or so casts, I caught my first fish. And then for the rest of the hour-long buff … NOTHING.
Yes, I know each fish has specific pools and they are in specific parts of the world. I was in the proper areas, fishing the proper pools. I never caught the trophy fish.
Eventually the timer runs out and the quest fails.
I flew back to Hallowfall, and the NPC still has a blue “!” so I took the quest again. This seemed a fair (but annoying) compromise in that it seems to let you try again.
So I took it again… but now I don’t have the buff. So now I can’t catch the trophy fish no matter what I do.
Who designed this???

And it seems like the trick was just to spam it on alts, but … at some point it was changed, so now it’s only once per week (only on Sat) per account. Is that right?
You can do it with other alts.
It’s probably worth noting that, on most weeks, two of the three fish they want you to catch usually have some kind of gimmick that makes them much, much less of an annoyance to catch.
100% screw trying to get a Sanguine Dogfish from “Blood in the Water,” just but 10 Bloody Perch from the AH, throw them into empty water, and be done with it. Same goes with everything that has a specific fishing bait tied to it.
Two of the fish this week don’t exist in the open water in Hallowfall, only from Glimmerpools, or else you have to go back up to the Isle of Dorn (well, a few other places have them, but I’ve never had much luck fishing in those)
It seemed a little busier than usual this week and I didn’t finish until the second half of the hour, but I got everything in Hallowfall.
It’s been a while since I failed the derby outright. It always used to happen on one or two characters when I throwing the whole warband at the derby early in the expansion, often underskilled and ill-equiped, but my main is pretty pimped out with fishing gear and seems to be able to find anything he wants to find.
You have an hour to collect the 3 fish.
Any unique fish you catch, gives you a mark.
So naturally it’s good to fish as much as you can, catching as many unique fish in addition to the 3 for the quest.
That’s about it, lol.
If you lose the buff, no more marks until next Saturday. (Be careful doing this in Warmode.)
Also, you can randomly fish up extra marks, I got like 15 that way.
And yes you can do it on alts, I rotated 3 max TWW fishers one weekend and got the mount.
They also can be fished from Bloody Perch schools, which are common enough in the rivers around Isle of Dorn (maybe elsewhere, I just know this area is where I go).
Probably the play is to fish the pools until you get 10 fish, and if you haven’t caught the trophy fish outright at that point, throw 10 fish in the water and use that buff (it only lasts 5min iirc).
And if you still haven’t caught the trophy fish… just rinse-repeat.
I’m aware of all this stuff. The game just refused to give me not one, but TWO of the three trophy fish this week. On a chr that is 100% fully maxed in every possible way for fishing.

No. You can do it on alts to keep progressing going.
Just tried on an alt that didn’t even have Algari fishing trained. Literally starting at 0.
The SECOND cast, I caught a trophy fish in Hallowfall.
I then flew to Isle of Dorn for the other two. From Glimmerpools and Bloody Perch schools, and using the BP buff.
For the next 58 minutes… NOTHING.
This feels broken.
