I completed it normally on this character then switched to an alt to complete it. After catching just one of the fish, the requirements fully completed, and I was able to turn it in. I switched to another alt, and the same thing happened (but I didn’t turn it in that time).
Yes it does that - but it doesn’t give you credit for the individual fish you catch which is it supposed to. So people who intended on doing it on several characters are still behind even turning in the quest the way it works.
All this would take is a tiny bit of internal testing to see if things are working correctly.
- Hallowfall Fishing Derby
- Derby Marks for catching each fish while the Derby Dasher aura is active are now character-specific, instead of shared between your Warband (20 Marks per character).
- Captain Oathmyt’s “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quest is now character-specific, instead of shared between your Warband.
- “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quests now award 10 Mereldar Derby Marks per completion.
- “Hallowfall Fishing Derby” quests now give the option of either 2 Soaked Journal Entries, 2 Algari Seekerthreads, or 2 Algari Anglerthreads per completion.
- Fish specific pools such as the Royal Ripple and Swarm of Slum Sharks will now persist longer when found.
I also don’t think the bottom two pools are lasting longer - it seems like they are shorter in duration.
Also those treasure pools are ending after one cast - surely this isn’t working as intended. I did two of them and same thing - one cast and it disappears.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that part. That happened to my first alt, but my second alt was getting the marks from individual fish oddly enough.
I wonder if that happens when you run out of the buff on your first alt because I have run 3 characters through and none of them are getting credit for the individual fish after the first one.
I did all three characters during the same hour.
Well I don’t know - I was planning on doing this on half a dozen characters and just catching the fish for marks and none of them are getting them after the first character.
I really wish they would just trash this warband system totally - then people could actually play without being worried their account is going to be actioned for an exploit because blizzard can’t program this to work properly.
Yeah, my plan before encountering the bug was to do this on 5 characters today, but now I’m afraid of getting banned.
Well there is no competitive advantage and there isn’t even much use for those marks so I don’t think they would do anything. The fact the ‘exploit’ gives you less than you normally would get isn’t a strong point in favor of them doing it either. All this does it save you a little time and not all that much either considering you can get 5 marks using the lures.
This isn’t even a new bug - they had the same one a few weeks ago too.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. It’s straight up not working on my alts right now. I finished the quest and caught all the fish on my main. But now I don’t even get the derby buff on my other characters.
They may have disabled it so they could fix it. Europe gets this hours earlier than us - I don’t know why NA even had this at the start. I usually do this right as it becomes available at 2 am for me.
You are getting a different bug then - because I tried another character and it is the same thing as it was hours ago. I get the buff just fine.
We all know that - what they state is supposed to happen wasn’t though.

And another batch of changes to the Fishing Derby that don’t work as intended (or at least as described in the recent hotfix notes).
- I completed the quest on one character and got all 20 Derby Marks for unique fishes. Got my 10 Derby Marks for completion and the extra reward. So far so good.
- Now additional characters are already flagged for the unique catches (which is the opposite of what the hotfixes said, but IMHO the way it should be because otherwise, alts would contribute too much)
- Additional characters get the Derby Dasher buff applied BUT then immediately removed. Sometimes this happens so fast that we might think we didn’t get the mandatory buff at all.
I can only guess, but it looks like the only players who saw the full 60-minute duration on multiple characters were those who didn’t catch all unique fishes early? And they even got a shortcut, because the quest objectives got completed by a single catch?
All the other players are suffering from “success” because their alts now can’t complete the quest repeatedly.
I wonder when we’ll finally see a working version of this event.

I can confirm I stopped fishing as soon as I completed the quest on my main.

Well you are correct I never waste time catching all the 20 unique fish once I got the mount. I wasn’t even planning on doing the quest on my alts. I only picked it up because I was going to catch 10 or so fish on each for the 10-15 marks and let the quest fail if I didn’t complete it by accident in the 10 minutes or so it took me. I have over 10 characters going and figured I would get an easy 50-100 out of them depending on how much time I had.
None of my alts could get any marks for unique fishes though even though they all got the buff.
I am not sure the assessment of the reason for the quick complete and lack of buff is correct though because this same bug happened a few weeks ago under the old system and even then I didn’t catch all the fish. Last week the same thing happened no buff but no quick complete either. Last week you could pick up the quest on an alt and catch the fish and never get credit for them.
And here’s another bug - if the quest fails. You can pick the quest up again - you can’t complete the quest though but if the quest fails you shouldn’t even be offered it again imo.
None of my alts even got the buff, so now I’m super far behind anyone who was allowed to finish and turn in the quest. Guess I’ll get the ensemble in like 3 years.
I am having a mix of bugs on this -
On my main it functioned normally. On alts that I’ve done the derby on before, I picked up the quest and it did not provide the buff, so I could not complete it. On alts that have never tried to do the quest I was able to pick it up and complete it normally on the first one. But on the second character it auto-fufilled the requirements as soon as I fished up a single fish, and I am unable to get additional derby marks from fishing up other fish.
Enjoying the derby but hopefully this gets fixed! Thank you
