Picked the quest up on my monk, who completed it last week no problem. Didn’t get the buff. Abandoned quest and picked it up on my druid instead. Got the buff and it’s working just fine so far. I wonder if it’s internally flagged as a one time quest per character in error or something? Idk
I also wasn’t able to get the buff this week, got it last week with no issues.
Same, I had to go afk, returned, and though I had the buff cast on me its not registering the catches. So I thought eh and sold them all in the AH.
Today the rainbowfish was needed and it would not drop. Spent the entire hour trying to get that one fish, but got everything else. When the timer ran out I dropped the failed quest and bought a lure for the rainbowfish. Had to log off to make dinner for the family. When I got back on and picked the quest back up it would no reapply the buff.

As of 10/19. This is still not fixed. I was in the middle of the quest, then IRL stuff came up so i abandoned the quest. When I picked it back up nothing counts towards the quest caught 3 Queen Lure fish and a few trophy nibbling minnows…
They still haven’t fixed this yet? Do your damn job, Blizzard!
Not being able to reobtain the buff sounds intentional. The quest giver is offering you a challenge to fish the trophy fish in an hour, it would defeat the purpose of the challenge if abandoning the quest and picking it back up let you just restart your timer and try again.
Rainbowfish is actually extremely easy to catch. Buy or craft a “Rainbow fish lure” and then go fish it in Glimmerpools. You can only get one fish per lure, but it’s a guaranteed drop if you’re fishing skill is high enough.
But yeah for everyone wondering - you CANNOT reobtain the buff. You can abandon the quest and restart the timer of the quest, but the buff is one hour from the moment you pick up the quest ONLY. Once it expires, that’s it. In other words, make sure you start the quest when you have a free hour ahead of yourself because you must complete the quest within that next hour. Once the buff is gone your progress will no longer be tracked and you will not be able to complete the quest.
The whole “abandoning the quest to get extra time” for the quest DOES NOT WORK anymore. It was a bug and was never intended to work this way.
Also, it seems the quest is not repeatable anymore. You can only complete it once per warband.
