Hallowed Helms acquired in 2021 do not seem to count for the Sinister Calling achievement. Pulling it out of your bank and equipping it doesn’t fix it either.

I have this EXACT same issue! Got the Squashling pet and it counted, but the Helm does not and, yes, equipping it does nothing for completing the achieve… I submitted a ticket (bug) but that was useless because it says there would be no reply.

I’m going to try something I may regret… I am going to delete the helm from my inventory and use Support’s item restoration service and see if receiving it from an email, which is the method that blizz sends the item back after it’s “restored” will work. This part scares me… “If an item doesn’t appear on the list, it’s not available for restoration.” My luck, the helm won’t be a valid item to restore.
The only caveat is the restoration service has a 7d cooldown per account (“World of Warcraft accounts can use this service once every 7 days.”)
So many things could go wrong… Item can’t be restored and never drops again this go year (awful drop rate off HH), or it doesn’t drop again due to a bug, like the same one that prevented it from being recognized in the first place from 2021’s event drop. Or, gasp, it drops again off HH and STILL doesn’t count because you had a broken one before, or w/e…ugh.
It’d be nice if Blizz either retroactively fixed the helm issue for players that got it last year, or just removing the “Sinister Calling” from the meta achieve would also fix things as well.
Deleting in 5…4…3…2…not…ready…yet…am…scared…!!!

Ok, I’m gonna take one for the team. Here we go…
Restoring it mailed it back to me like it should, but collecting it from Support’s email back to me SHOULD work as you didn’t have it anymore, so it was like a brand new one, however it STILL won’t give the achievement.
Oh well, I’m out of ideas. Now they have to fix it or I gotta loot another from the rubbish drop rate off the boss.

This has to be a bug, I noticed it right after pre-patch. Apparently they adjusted the Item itself because people were trading it. It makes no sense that I got both the Pet and the Helm last year and only 1 counts, don’t want to needless roll for it and possible cost someone else’s cheevo.
Unfortunately having this problem as well. Have the Hallowed Helm from last year and the Sinister Squashling and the achievement still does not pop. Submitted a ticket earlier today so hopefully anyone else with this problem also files a complaint.
According to Blizzard’s own self help database you can collect the pet and helm from different years and get the achievement so hopefully it is something they address.
Hoping this gets fixed.

Why should a cosmetic helm from the same thing last year not count?! Come on Blizz, I passed on this item without realizing the my achievement wasn’t completed.
I am also having this issue, please blizz fix this so we don’t need steal hallowed helms from other players that don’t have one yet!
Likely wont be fixed, even if it is, wont be in time for the end of the event. I believe its only tracking newly obtained items, and when the achievements were added, your existing helm is treated as an existing item and not newly obtained.
I understand you can get the items from multiple years and you don’t need to get both in the same year. (Pet 1 year, helm another year - I’m not saying you cant) Just that your existing helm is from a year when achievements wern’t in, so it didn’t meet the ‘obtain’ requirement.
I think it should just count if you have one in your bag even if its from before achievements were added, just not going to hold my breathe that they do that before the event is over.
On a side note - You can get them from trick or treating at an inn once per hour. My paladin has 3 of them from that.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic:
If you obtained the Hallowed Helm or Sinister Squashling in Burning Crusade Classic, this will not be counted towards the Achievement criteria in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, to complete the Achievement criteria you will need to obtain the Hallowed Helm or Sinister Squashling again.

I had the pet from last Halloween’s Hallows End, it was in my bank (on the character I’m posting this from) for all of TBC Classic and has been in my pet journal since day 1 of pre-patch for WoTLK Classic when the pet/mount journal was added, that pet counted toward my achievement, so their official answer posted above me is incorrect.
They poorly worded it but they are still correct…ish. They are correct on the helm, wrong on the pet.
The Sinister Squashling must be learned
Thats the criteria for the achievement, not actually looting it. The helm is loot, pet is learn. You couldn’t ‘learn’ the pet in TBC as there was no pet journal. You learned it during the prepatch/launch of WOTLK, so it met the criteria of ‘learn’.
This would be my understanding of it anyhow.
