Half Elf Ears -- for Night Elves and Nightborne!

Hello fellow Elf enthusiasts!

At this point, we have pretty much resolved and soft-retconned the game to support the lore literature on the prominence of Half Elves of all types, even Gilnean (dual argument for whether this can be justified by Alliance of Lordaeron break migrations or Night Elven magic with or after the Worgen Curse - All in all very cool stuff!).

The only Elven type remaining without this option is the Kaldorei - Night Elf and Shaldorei - Nightborne.

I encourage all interested in the option to post in-game suggestions for adding a new Pointed Ears option for Night Elves and Nightborne – Essentially, these would be shorter and daintier than even the Night Elf’s “Short”, and more upward rotated, akin to old cinematics and even official visual depictions.

This would allow for further customization options, variety and agency that move further away from the old polygon ‘blocks’ Elves used to have for ears before any graphic updates the game had received since WoD. Such ears might also sit better with some helmets, hairstlyes, and especially produce less clashing with some weapon models or shoulderpad transmogs.

Thanks for reading!
I wish you all a great upcoming weekend in the Siren Isle! :elf: :mermaid: :magic_wand:
And happy Winter holidays! :santa:

Agreed, but you need to take it further. Just because he’s half dwarf doesn’t mean he can’t be half elf. Think that’s a vulpera? Only half right, check the ears, half elf. Is that a troll i see, only on my mother’s side.

Wouldn’t that be more a blood elf/high elf thing? Those are the ones breeding with “shudders” humans.

Ok, so let me address the Nightbourne for a second.
Considering that the Nightbourne have only been outside Suramar for a few years (Around 7 I think.), there is not NEARLY enough time for any Half-Nightbourne to be born. And the only 2 romances between one and another Race are.
The Leaders of the Nightbourne and Blood Elves…which would mean any children wouldn’t be half-elves, they’d just be half 2 different kinds of elves. And a Dragon and Nightbourne…who are are both female, so no Half-Elves there either.

Where would these theoretical Half-Elves for the Nightbourne come from? They sure as heck wouldn’t be Half Human.

How would there be half elf nightborne when they’ve only been out of their bubble for a few years and most of that time was spent at war with humans?

To all who commented above – Thanks for the very fair and nuanced counterpoints made so far. I suppose my post was trying to justify the new ear options for simply the Elven races given the potential lore and transmog benefits.

With that being said… the point about Nightborne is true, they only recently left Suramar. New Ear options would have to be justified by another explanation, so I guess mine was less thought out in that department.

Oops :dracthyr_shrug:

I guess it’s a question of how much variety will eventually be added to each race, and what lore or otherwise justifications, if any, would be given. I thought the Arathi options were very nice, following the Dracthyr for more Sub-Elven options. I’d love to see more added to that fantasy, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see where the feedback, lore developments and trending ideas take the customization next.

I personally hope to see more restrictions on features, transmog and class combinations lifted as time moves forward. I think more variety is always great in an MMO… Provided it’s not utterly lorebreaking – that’s the usual premise, although that hasn’t always prevented new additions or even hints at upcoming new things.

For Nightbourne they’d have to be half something other than human.
For Night Elves it could be anything from The Alliance or Kalimdor, they didn’t buddy up with the Gilneans early enough for that to work so I’d actually say it’s more likely they’d be half-orc or troll than Human.

Well then, that is what happens when you post late :dracthyr_lulmao:
I suppose another lore justification would have to be found; if any, really, because we’ve seen new options just added for variety’s sake.
I hope these will be added at some point though.

only if we can flay them first.
