Hello Moon Guard! Hello Azeroth!
My name is Peach Flowermoon, a wandering haiku poet. I long to inspire others with this wonderful yet somewhat simple art. It is called haiku, and in my adventures thus far encounters with those who know of it let alone compose in its manner have been rare. So, how about an advertisement here in this wonderful little forum?
LOOKING FOR ANYBODY IN AZEROTH WILLING TO GIVE HAIKU A TRY!
What are haiku? Haiku are an extremely brief form of poem. They consist of seventeen syllables, in a pattern of five / seven / five, and require no use of rhyme. There is often an internal break after the first or second line (though not necessary) which creates a juxtaposition of images. Focus is on condensing ones idea and emotions into simple expression. The result is like a pretty little vignette, but one that can often contain hidden depths.
Examples you say? Well my skills are quite amateur, but here are a few from my own hand:
My heart was left there
Smoldering like the phoenix -
Silvermoon City
Tears of the Goddess -
Right as she enters Moonglade
It begins to rain
Alterac Valley -
The slings and arrows can’t stop
A man from fishing
Hopefully those give you a taste of what a haiku is. But I have seen my own mind at work in this format, what about yours? Are there any poets out there? Maybe some of you don’t even know it! So what do you say? Will you give it a try? Compose one below, from the heart of your character!
(I want to see scenes from Azeroth! Use reference to it’s world, it’s characters, it’s mythos! If there are enough people who enjoy this kind of thing, maybe we could make a monthly World of Warcraft haiku prompt or something?)
