because of my cat. Yep, you read that right, my cat. I couldn’t believe it either until it happened.
Long story short I was working on a friend of mines PC and had it up on my PC desk. Mine was on the floor in front of my desk. While his was updating Windows I figured I would give mine a cleaning while I was waiting. I have a Alienware R8…(yes I know so please dont flame me). The R8 has a fold out arm that holds the PSU, so I had it flat on the floor (hardwood floor) with the arm facing up. I had my PC running so when I blew out the fans it would help a little. My mistake…
My friends PC made a beeping sound so I went to see what it was. Welp, my little rescue kitten jumped from my bed straight into my PC. I heard a LOUD pop and the cat scream. Went to my PC and it was dead. Well, PSU was still good, but mobo and who knows what else was fried. Needless to say I was a little pissed. Not at the cat, but at myself.
A new mobo for that PC is rather expensive. I didn’t want a refurbished board. So this gave me a excuse to talk my wife into me getting a new PC lol.
So, with GPU prices like crazy I went with a pre-built from Ibuypower.
i7 10700k
Enermax Liqmax III 360mm
16GB G. SKILL Ripjaws DDR4 3200
700 watt psu
500GB WD Blue M.2 SSD
MSI Z490-A PRO ProSeries
Case and Fans
Now, you wondering were the GPU is? I could have ordered it with a 3060, 3080, etc, but the wait time for that is like till the summer. So, it comes with a Nvidia Gt1030, which I will replace with my XFX 5600 XT. I will also be replacing the SSD to my Crucial MX 500 1 TB.
All that for 1300.00. Not too bad if you ask me. Just remember folks, little kittens like to jump in boxes, including your PC case lol.
I see two major flaws here with this build also. 16GB G. SKILL Ripjaws DDR4 3200(like driving a car with your foot on the brake) intel needs 4000mhz to be competitive. Hell viper 4000mhz is VERY cheap. 700w PSU <----- Major red flag especially if you OC that i7 10700k which is a total must. A 750w-800w is best
If your 3200mhz is a good B die? Just OC it to 38000mhz. I would def get some 4000mhz ram if you can. Its about $100 on newegg. Im on 4200mhz CL17 myself
Crucial Ballistix is one of the best rams out there. They dont outsource anything. Their kits are the ONLY kits that are 100% made in house. Even the die. They are their own supplier. Due to this they have one of the highest OC potential. I love Crucial.
You could push that kit to 4400mhz with ease doing as little as just changing the speed from 4000 to 4400mhz and touching nothing else.

Already have my WDSN850 (Western Digital Black 2TB PCIe 4 NVMe) on order separate I wanted to install that myself… I am going to install Windows (I have MSDN sub so I can get whatever version of Windows 10 I want)
I placed this order 20.Feb and JUST went to QA yesterday. They told me initially it would be 5 weeks… and I even deferred it to get an other 5% off… so no rush and still it doesn’t look like it will be that long.
So you never know even Alienware they are saying if you order TODAY it could be around end of April…
